SummerStage is a three-month concert series presented by the New York City Parks Foundation. The free program takes place annually from June to the end of August, from morning to dusk. Founded in 1986, SummerStage serves to encourage and foster an appreciation for diversity through showcasing artists from a range of different cultures.
Spread throughout eighteen parks in the five boroughs of New York City, shows at SummerStage feature a wide variety of entertainment, including live music, Latin dance, spoken word, comedy, film screenings, and theater.
While most of SummerStage events are free, there are also several big-name benefit concerts on the main stage in Central Park, with proceeds going towards the city’s other free programs. Past performers at SummerStage include Santigold, Wiz Khalifa, Florence and the Machine, the XX, and Ratatat.
The festival also offers guests an abundance of different types of food, wine, and beer- perfect for a picnic!
