NYC Vegetarian Food Festival Description

NYC Vegetarian Food Festival - Food Festival in New York.

The world plays hosts to thousands of amazing food festivals, where millions of people rush to booths serving tasty food to stuff their faces with as much as they can possibly inhale. However, heading into the summer months, you might be more conscious of what you’re eating, since you have to get your beach body back.

The NYC Vegetarian Food Festival is the perfect event for healthy foodies who love to stuff their face as much as unhealthy eaters. Vegetarian food companies, restaurants, and health and wellness vendors all set up shop in order to provide grub and teach different ways to live a healthy lifestyle.

Past vendors and sponsors of the two-day NYC Vegetarian Food Festival include Olive Oil Lovers, US Veg Corp, Yves Veggie Cuisine, and Victoria Vegan, among others. Tickets for the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival start around $30 for one-day passes and $50 for two-day admission. The event normally takes place at Metropolitan Pavillion, which is accessible by subway.

The festival held its second annual event on March 2-3, 2013 and I went with a friend and really enjoyed it. My diet is gluten-free for medical reasons and I'm not vegetarian, but I love fresh, natural foods and was not disappointed. Instead of a a lot of highly processed meat substitutes, vendors offered an array of raw food bars, Indian food, healthy snacks and crackers without transfats, MSG or other unhealthy ingredients, various juicing options, many entirely gluten-free cookies and brownies, low-sugar treats, natural peanut and other nut butters, vegan body care supplies, ice cream, and samples of everything - lots and lots of samples! Plenty of coupons and fun gifts, too, and most products could be purchased right on site, often for a generous discount. The suppliers range from large manufacturers to local artisans, so there is an interesting surprise at every table. Anyone with food allergies can pay the $5 entry feel and safely eat many items available because the vendors are all very knowledgeable about their products and how they are made. However, this year, the $5 entrance fee versus the $30 VIP tickets meant an extensive wait at the door. My friend and I came very early, before doors were open, and waited close to two hours to get in, and many people in line were very unhappy. The big benefit to paying for VIP tickets, aside from quicker entrance, was access to several speakers. Perhaps they'll work out a better system next year, as my friend went in its first year and she said the wait was not as long. She also said in its first year, recycling bins were available for discarded sample cups and other recyclable materials, but only garbage bis were available this year. I highly recommend this show to anyone who loves food, vegetarian or not. It's a great way to see where trends in packaged foods are moving, learn about new products, and have a great day with friends sampling new and old favorites.
