Party Earth Review Named after London’s infamous psychiatric hospital, Bedlam is a breath of fresh air conceived by the owners of Eastern Bloc – only this time, they went for “weird” over “queer,” creating an open multi-room bar “for everyone” with a killer décor and an attitude to match. The crowd of slick-haired rockers and their dressed ... more

Eastern Bloc - Dive Bar | Gay Bar in New York.

Party Earth Review A high-energy gay hotspot with a devil-may-care attitude, Eastern Bloc is a rollicking neighborhood joint that attracts a wild, fun-loving party crowd. Gay Bars in the East Village Overview

The Lobby Bar at the Bowery Hotel - Hotel Bar | Lounge in East Village, NYC

Considering how long the neighborhood has been an epicenter of gay culture, it’s no wonder that East Village gay bars are plentiful and entertaining. These places range from classy to cute, with every flavor in between.

On average, most of the gay bars in the East Village are fun and respectful hangouts for your modern-day metropolitan gay and lesbian crowd. A bar like Bedlam over in Alphabet City offers a laid-back and cozy atmosphere, where crowds of edgily-dressed gay hipsters can sip cheap beer beneath taxidermy animal heads when they’re not dancing to the electronic and hard rock played by the DJs.

There are also places like Eastern Bloc, a Soviet-themed gay dive with a considerably sharper edge. This is the kind of place where gay porno covers nearly every surface, and flirtatious dudes with serious thirst drink heavily amid rocking teams of friends and curious parties. While a place like Eastern Bloc definitely has a fun, naughty atmosphere to it, it’s also the kind of place that might scandalize less experienced members of a work friend group.

But these are only two examples of the thriving gay bar culture in the East Village. Gay partiers need only walk the streets of this 'hood to find many different places that will be right up their alley.
