Scene followers willing to brave a stringent door policy will want to check out RdV (“rendezvous”), a hush-hush downtown hotspot that prides itself on its exclusivity.
Sister club to the popular Kiss & Fly, this subterranean den draws an attractive and affluent clientele of laid-back ladies in little black dresses, after-work financiers, and edgy hipster rockers who cluster in the seven comfy alcoves to indulge in expensive bottle service.
An opulent décor of carved antique settees, stately mirrors, crystal chandeliers, and impressively tall candle holders creates a sophisticated environment, while unique elements like the vast mural of a woman writhing in ecstasy add just the right touch of sensuality.
Although a small bar area features skilled mixologists willing to whip up new libations based on personal tastes, and the DJ’s eclectic mix of upbeat pop, hip-hop, and dance keeps the crowd shaking, most of the business buddies and punkish models and their entourages prefer to sprawl on tufted ottomans in private corners for more inconspicuous bad behavior.
The otherwise mature weekday vibe falls to pieces on Wednesdays, when an eclectic hard-partying crowd of socialistas, edgy downtown hipsters, and artistic Brooklyn kids flock in for uninhibited dancing that takes the crazy up a notch – and it’s just that type of diversity in vibe and clientele that makes RdV an equally great spot whether patrons are into a sane night of relaxation or a night of sensual but discreet debauchery.
Good looking young professionals, Wall Streeters, affluent hipsters, creative and trendy types, and some models, 20s to 30s.
DJ plays a mix of hip-hop, pop, 80s, and 90s.
None.
Beer $9+, wine $16+, cocktails $15+, bottle service $375+.
Suits or button-downs and dress pants for men, little black dresses for women. Edgier on Wednesdays, but still designer.
Wednesdays through Saturdays for a consistently large crowd, and Wednesdays in particular for a hard-partying, wealthy club-kid scene.
Kiss & Fly (409 West 13th Street) right above RdV attracts a more energetic crowd, as does Tenjune (26 Little West 12th Street) around the corner.
