Party Earth RdV - TEMPORARILY CLOSED Review

The Scene

Scene followers willing to brave a stringent door policy will want to check out RdV (“rendezvous”), a hush-hush downtown hotspot that prides itself on its exclusivity.

Sister club to the popular Kiss & Fly, this subterranean den draws an attractive and affluent clientele of laid-back ladies in little black dresses, after-work financiers, and edgy hipster rockers who cluster in the seven comfy alcoves to indulge in expensive bottle service.

An opulent décor of carved antique settees, stately mirrors, crystal chandeliers, and impressively tall candle holders creates a sophisticated environment, while unique elements like the vast mural of a woman writhing in ecstasy add just the right touch of sensuality.

Although a small bar area features skilled mixologists willing to whip up new libations based on personal tastes, and the DJ’s eclectic mix of upbeat pop, hip-hop, and dance keeps the crowd shaking, most of the business buddies and punkish models and their entourages prefer to sprawl on tufted ottomans in private corners for more inconspicuous bad behavior.

The otherwise mature weekday vibe falls to pieces on Wednesdays, when an eclectic hard-partying crowd of socialistas, edgy downtown hipsters, and artistic Brooklyn kids flock in for uninhibited dancing that takes the crazy up a notch – and it’s just that type of diversity in vibe and clientele that makes RdV an equally great spot whether patrons are into a sane night of relaxation or a night of sensual but discreet debauchery.

Tip from Adriana:

Poppin’ bottles and the DJ pumping the latest Kanye tracks make for the best Wednesday night. What goes on at RdV, stays at RdV.

  • Crowd

Good looking young professionals, Wall Streeters, affluent hipsters, creative and trendy types, and some models, 20s to 30s.

  • Entertainment / Music

DJ plays a mix of hip-hop, pop, 80s, and 90s.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

    None.

  • Prices

    Beer $9+, wine $16+, cocktails $15+, bottle service $375+.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

Suits or button-downs and dress pants for men, little black dresses for women. Edgier on Wednesdays, but still designer.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

Wednesdays through Saturdays for a consistently large crowd, and Wednesdays in particular for a hard-partying, wealthy club-kid scene.

  • Close By

Kiss & Fly (409 West 13th Street) right above RdV attracts a more energetic crowd, as does Tenjune (26 Little West 12th Street) around the corner.

Sure why not

I've been to RDV a few times but it's always been a "we're here so we might as well go in" more than a destination location for the evening. The decor is nice and I love the big couches for bottle service, and the music is really good as well, but for me the crowd can be a bit hit or miss. On the better nights I've had a blast table hopping and dancing with richpsters (rich hipsters) to a mix of throw back hip hop and on the worse nights i've been surrounded by dull finance guys in suits with a lot lacking in the personality department. To play it safe I'd say go during the week, and as with most place in the city, take with a grain of salt on weekends.

Many Meatpacking District clubs like the consider themselves the kind of establishment that can put ideas in your pants, but few pull such a thing off as well as the gorgeous RdV. The wait and hush-keep-it-down-now-voices-carry routine pay off when you enter this gorgeous landscape of polished surfaces, lush furniture, and wall-spanning murals featuring gorgeous bodies in flagrante delicto. The crowds are generally beautiful, the cocktails delicious, and the music decent at the very least. Loser factor? Of course it's high--this is a bottle service joint, so you're bound to run into some braying guy-enas who believe themselves God's gifts to women. But just take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy your surroundings, and you'll find yourself happy you came.

This place is definitely luxe all the way. Expect everyone there to be good looking and dressed nice. And if you're trying to go there on a saturday night, you better be willing to drop some money and get bottle service or else you're looking at a 2, 3 hour wait (at that point I'd recommend just going somewhere else). But if you're willing to do all that and gain entry into this elusive club, then you're going to have a great time. Like many other clubs in meatpacking, the club isn't big at all but because of strict bouncers the club never gets uncomfortably crowded, and even when it does get a little crowded you're surrounded by young, rich types so I didn't mind that at all. To summarize, very nice club, great dance music (mix of club and rnb later on into the night) and a very good crowd!
