Birdland Jazz Club

The Birdland jazz club, located in New York City, is a historic jazz venue that has been in the city since 1949. Despite experiencing a series of closures, re-openings, and several relocations throughout its long history, the club has resided in Manhattan's Theater District since 1986, close to its original location.

The name of the club was inspired by a reoccurring act by saxophonist Charlie "Bird" Parker. Renowned musicians who have played at Birdland over the decades include Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and regular performances by John Coltrane and his quartet. In its heyday in the fifties, Birdland was a landmark for jazz and a famous nightclub whose regular guest list could include the likes of Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Judy Garland.

Shows at Birdland are performed nightly, and the venue serves dinner and a late-night menu, and has a full bar. The club is best accessed by public transportation.
