Matt PennerMar 11, 2013Emerging from the underground at the Bedford stop you may feel you’ve arrived in a new world. In reality you’re just entering a new borough- Brooklyn, Williamsburg to be exact.
This eccentric neighborhood has been dubbed the “hipster mecca.” Even if you don’t fall into this particular counter culture, you’ll feel welcome in its presence anyways. It’s a much-needed juxtaposition to the Manhattan ambiance, and so are the prices.
Williamsburg is easily accessible. Coming from Manhattan it’s the first stop in Brooklyn on the L. You can also take the J/M, G, and obviously a taxi. But if you really want to fit in, ride a fixie or walk across the Williamsburg Bridge, which boasts one of the most underrated views of the city.
Upon arrival your opportunities are limitless, day and night. Bedford St. is the main vain that runs vertically through Williamsburg and it has something for everyone. It’s lined with boutiques, record shops, art galleries, eateries, and a bar on nearly every corner. Don’t be afraid to shy away from the main street either. Gems are spread throughout the neighborhood. Williamsburg Flea, Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn Brewery, McCarren Park, and The Music Hall of Williamsburg are just a few of the many worth checking out.
If America ever witnesses another cultural revolution, Williamsburg would be its birthplace. Don’t you want to say you were there in its heyday?
