From the most traditional wear to the most exclusive high-end designs, Munich shopping has it all. In fact, many of the city's shops combine international names and designer goods with traditional Bavarian crafts. So if you need lederhosen to go with your Dolce & Gabbana...there you go.
The main shopping areas are Neuhauserstrasse and Kaufingerstrasse, both lined with large department stores and international chains. Smaller, more exclusive boutiques can be found around Maximilianstrasse and Theatinerstrasse. Try saying that five times fast.
Located in the center of Munich, Fünf Höfe (Five Courtyards) is an architecturally stunning shopping gallery that combines a sleek design of glass and steel with a bevy of posh designer boutiques, specialty shops, cafés, restaurants, and art galleries that offer something for every budget. Even if shopping in Munich isn’t on the agenda, it’s easy to spend an enjoyable hour or two inside Fünf Höfe, browsing, people-watching, and promenading through the glass halls.
Fans of indie labels, meanwhile, should check out Siebter Himmel, home to an assortment of fashions and accessories by hip labels at surprisingly reasonable prices. Traditional souvenirs are best had at Sebastian Wesely, which has been peddling beer steins and carved angels for centuries.
