The GOP Varieté Theatre opened in 2008 in central Munich’s Alstadt-Lehal district.
The GOP is located in a building that once housed one of Munich’s most loved institutions. In 1946 the theater Kleine Komödie am Max II was opened by Gerhard Metzner, who was one of the first in Munich to be issued with a license by the US occupying forces to run a private theater.
For more than twenty years, the Kleine Komödie am Max II was a celebrated part of Munich’s cultural scene, featuring some of Germany’s biggest stars, such as Johannes Heesters, Ilja Richter, Grit Böttcher, Uschi Glas, Heinz Rühmann and Walter Sedlmay.
In 2007 it closed, only to be reopened a year later as the GOP Varieté Theatre, which carries on the legacy of the Kleine Komödie am Max II by hosting all kinds of different performances.
The live shows at the GOP Varieté Theatre change bi-monthly. Each production features a subject or theme that runs through the entire performance. From comedy to art house, the theater hosts award-winning international stars and young newcomers.
Food can be ordered and enjoyed at your table in the theater or in an adjacent restaurant.
Capacity at the GOP Varieté Theatre is 600.
