Tijuana Café is a Mexican restaurant and bar that gives way to two spacious outdoor patios where umbrella-covered tables, tiki huts, tropical plants, and very tall palm trees create a peaceful yet festive atmosphere.

Located in the heart of Schwabing near the University of Munich, the joint draws a young, stylish crowd looking for a good time. And though the restaurant’s décor features the requisite cacti and fake snakes, the clientele makes up for the kitsch by producing an outgoing and upbeat atmosphere that can be hard to resist.

Groups of well-dressed patrons pile in for the early evening Happy Hour – which always features real tortilla chips, fruity margaritas, and loud conversation – then wander outside to the urban oasis for a bit of flirting among the trees.

In fact, well-placed space heaters make the terrace suitable even on cooler nights, so as long as it’s not raining, guests should grab a table outside and relax in the candlelit glow of Tijuana Café’s lush, tropical setting.

Great atmosphere and decent prices!

Tijuana Café is a Mexican restaurant and bar located in the trendy neighbourhood of Schwabing! With extensive seating arrangements including an indoor restaurant and an outdoor terrace and bar, there is plenty of space to spread out. Fear not, the outdoor areas are equipped with plenty of outdoor patio heaters which can certainly beam out the heat to rid those winter chills. The decor emulates a Mexican oasis by incorporating palm trees and wooden huts. Although slightly tacky it all adds to the fun atmosphere! I have yet to try the food, but have heard great things about the variety of choice and value for money. The drinks menu also offers lots of options and happy hour makes all the cocktails a reasonable price. The only drawback was due to the busy crowd and slightly confusing layout, it was difficult to get our drinks quickly. It seems what is lacking in customer service is made up for with great drinks and a laid-back atmosphere. A little advice...get there earlier on a weekend or during happy hour as it never fails to draw in a busy crowd.
