Party Earth Kilians Irish Pub Review

The Scene

Anyone with a craving for a Guinness that those German beer halls just won't fulfill will want to head to Kilians Irish Pub for an authentic atmosphere and an animated crowd.

Anyone with a craving for a Guinness that those German beer halls just won’t fulfill will want to head to Kilians Irish Pub for an authentic atmosphere and an animated crowd.

This large multi-room pub has a distinctive Irish vibe that’s helped along by the décor of shamrocks, Guinness posters, rustic tables, and lots of green – not to mention a welcome absence of TVs, which puts the focus on conversation and good company.

Well-known for its nightly live music, the pub attracts a high-spirited crowd of regulars, expats, travelers, and Germans alike that settle in with a Guinness to enjoy the ever-changing and eclectic lineup of bands and performers.

While the music in the front room at Kilians Irish Pub sets the tone for an evening of loud revelry, the library in the back and the summer terrace provide relaxing options for somewhat quieter reflection over a pint or two.

Tip from Lucas:

Kilians is one of the few places in Munich that consistently has live music, so it’s definitely a dependable venue on slow nights.

  • Crowd

Lively mix of locals, expats, and travelers, including many English speakers, mid-20s to 30s.

  • Entertainment / Music

Live music nightly 9pm–12:30am, including everything from Irish folk and Elvis bands to jazz, blues, and classic rock. Karaoke Sunday nights.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

Full German, American, and Irish menu includes burgers, steaks, nachos, and an Irish breakfast. Kilians shares its space with the adjoining Ned Kelly's Australian Bar (same owner), but is separated by a corridor.

  • Prices

Cheeseburger €8.20, fish and chips €10.60, sirloin steak €16.20. Beer €4.20, cocktails €7.60+, mixed drinks €6.50–€7.50, shots €2.40.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

    Casual.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

Attracts a crowd every day, although Thursdays and the weekends are the busiest.

Fun, friendly, worst karaoke ever. Love it.

Now I love me some German beer. But sometimes you want some Irish goodness to go with it, and Killian’s is exactly the place for that…and LOTS of it. Lots of great ciders and rich dark stouts compliment a Sunday karaoke that has made my Mondays about as unbearable as they could possibly be. Haven’t been in awhile but the same folks who run it also run the regular karaoke nights at Shamrock, and you will often see the same folks at both. And much like at Shamrock, the quality of said karaoke ranges from halfway decent to what I imagine the bombing of Dresden sounded like. Too soon? They also do lots of live music in a host of styles but always in foot-stomping form, and the pub grub is pretty darn good (though I’m a sucker for anything drenched in malt vinegar). It’s not very big and can get crowded quickly, so good luck grabbing a table during peak hours. That said, it’s bigger than it looks, and the space loops around in the back, which has led to me losing my friends here on more than one occasion. Nice outdoor area but it – like most in the city – closes at 11. All the popular games on the tub if you dig that sort of thing. I could take it or leave it. Share’s the stairwell with Aussie bar Ned Kelly's, so expect lots of Heath Ledger lookalikes raging next door. Too soon?
