Pubs in Munich

The city is obviously far better known for its expansive beer gardens, but considering how much its denizens love their beer, it’s not terribly hard to find a few good pubs in Munich.

The Irish pubs in Munich are obvious by their very names, whether it’s Cobbler's Irish Pub in Germering, the Irish Folk Pub in Schwabing, or Kilians Irish Pub in the City Center. All of them promise properly poured pints of Guinness, dart boards, and signature bangers & mash, and Kilians especially has a distinctive Irish vibe helped along by the décor of shamrocks, Guinness posters, rustic tables, and lots of green – not to mention a welcome absence of TVs, which puts the focus on conversation and good company.

Tourists tend to stick to the pubs around City Center, and one can expect the prices to match the tourist presence, while the hipsters and a strong gay population have both camped out in Glockenbach, home to several friendly neighborhood pubs.

Pubs in Munich with more of a Bavarian bent, meanwhile, include Augustiner Keller, Spaten Hof, Bayerischer Donisl, and Hackerhaus, where the staff is all dressed in lederhosen, the pub grub is heavy on the bratwurst, and the live music just begs for a polka dance or two.

Munich pubs don’t dominate the nightlife, but for a relaxed pint and an equally relaxed evening, the pubs in Munich can’t be beat.
