Freiheiz is a concert venue that opened in 2007. Located just west of the center of the city in Nymphenburg district, a former industrial part of Munich, the venue can be recognized by its large, now out of use, brick chimney.

The chimney is part of a former heating plant and part of the reason for Freiheiz’s name – heizen is German for heating. The first half of the name – frei – comes from the German word freiheit (freedom).

Performances at Freiheiz have included acts like, Natalie Merchant, Balkan Beat Box, Kakkmaddafakka, Train, Ane Brun and The Felice Brothers.

Other than concerts at Freiheiz the venue also features crossover projects, interactive forms of art, such as cabaret, and is a platform for experimental electronic music.

The concert hall style seating of Freiheiz can seat around 300 people.
