Glockenbach, Munich

Glockenbach is less of a neighborhood than it is a distinctive enclave within Isarvorstadt, and though the area itself may be small, it still enjoys a reputation as one of the hippest and most alternative corners in Munich.

By day, the neighborhood teems with a hip young crowd and international students who gather to chat about politics and culture over coffee at the many quaint cafés. A large contingent of artsy and alternative types, not to mention the art galleries, music stores, and unique boutiques, also contribute to the area’s open and relaxed atmosphere.

Traditionally known as the heart of Munich’s gay scene, Glockenbach is home to several prominent gay and lesbian bars and clubs located on Müllerstrasse, while the rest of the bar scene tends to be quirky, underground, and affordable.

Plenty of live music adds to the action at many bars in Glockenbach, as well as some frenetic dancing to the beats of up-and-coming DJs.
