Candles protruding from the orange walls cast an eerie glow on the red leather sofas, creating the slightly unsettling feel of a medieval altar gone awry.

The Jesus statuettes and red candles in the back room are perfect accoutrements for anyone planning on holding a séance, while an unexplained fish mobile in the window just adds an extra dash of oddity.

After a couple of cocktails, however, the peculiarities fade into the background as patrons discover that Holy Home is just a friendly neighborhood bar playing host to a happy crowd of regulars.

A gem in one of Munich's hippest neighborhoods

This place is a cosy little oasis between those many posh and upscale bars around Munich and proves those wrong, who say there is no alternative. Located in the hip, but still alternative "Glockenbachviertel" (a part of Isarvorstadt), the Holy Home is a gem for those who appreciate a good selection of beer, a laid-back and casual atmosphere and a fun and relaxed crowd that is quite fond of tippling. If you feel like sipping a fancy cocktail in your party dress, this is probably not the right place. But if you're looking for a good spot to to grab a beer with your friends, hang out for a while, grab some more beers, enjoy good music (a cool mix of indie, rock and pop), grab some shots, talk to like-minded strangers, relax in one of the comfortable sofas, dance and suddenly realize that the beer you just wanted to grab had just turned into a hell of a party night, then you will love the Holy Home as much as I do. :-)
