The Vicente Calderón stadium, located in the heart of Madrid, is one of the top sporting venues in Europe. Opened in 1966 as Estadio Manzanares, the stadium was named after the river that it lay on. In 1971, the name was changed to honor one of the most important presidents in the Atlético club’s history, Vicente Calderón.
The Vicente Calderón stadium was the first in Spain to classify as a five star ‘UEFA Elite Stadium.’ With a 54,851-person capacity, the stadium is home to Spanish football club Atlético de Madrid and also regularly hosts international matches of the Spanish national team.
