The San Silvestre Vallecana is an annual 10km race held on New Year’s Eve in the Madrid neighborhood of Vallecas. Vallecas is located in the southeastern part of the city and has hosted the San Silvestre Vallecana since 1964.
With over 30,000 runners competing annually, the San Silvestre Vallecana offers one race for amateur athletes, the San Silvestre Popular, and another, the San Silvestre Vallecana International, for elite professional runners, which is capped at 1,000 competitors. Past San Silvestre Vallecana International winners include Eliud Kipchoge, Paula Radcliffe, and Hagos Gebrhiwet.
Registration opens in November and generally fills up before race day. Non-competitors can watch the race along the streets as the San Silvestre Vallecana starts at the Concha Espina and ends at Candilejas.
