Tucked away on a tranquil corner of the otherwise clamorous neighborhood of Malasaña, Café Ruiz is a charming little spot that offers a more subdued atmosphere than the other bars in the area.
An authentic 1920s vibe is helped along by the lovely hardwood fixtures and furnishings, as well as by the bluesy piano sounds and soft, sultry female vocals that drift through the air.
Although the back wall of the bar holds a dizzying array of liquors, the venue is more known for its excellent coffees, ice creams, and delectable milkshakes.
A larger room in the back features grand wood-framed mirrors and plush crimson banquettes, creating an intimate environment where the sophisticated, low-key clientele gathers for drinks and conversation.
For those in need of a quick and quiet escape from the hot city streets or a relaxed afternoon over coffee and a book, they need look no further than Café Ruiz.
Tranquil and cosmopolitan, 20s and 30s.
Soft ambient jazz and blues.
Tapas, ice cream, and milkshakes. Separate room available for private parties.
Tapas €4–€6. Cocktails €6–€8, milkshakes €5–€7.
