Located at the east end of the Plaza del Dos de Mayo in the heart of Malasaña, El 2D (also known as Bar Dos) is arguably the most popular hangout in this bustling, tree-filled square, despite having apparently changed very little since its 70s-era beginnings.

This small and rustic one-room bar keeps its large double doors thrown open wide to welcome the young and boisterous local patrons that gather over drinks to share stories of their nightlife adventures and frequently defy the city's smoking ban.

The pleasant view, refreshing terraces, and amiable staff add to the convivial atmosphere, as does the buzz of carefree conversation that seems to grow louder along with the music as the evening wears on.

A favorite with pub crawlers, El 2D is the perfect stop for a chill cup of coffee early in the day or a few cheap rounds of beer before heading off to the nightclubs.
