West Hollywood music venues are some of the best places to catch an intimate show in Los Angeles. Congregating along the Sunset Strip on the west side of WeHo, this area is definitely a hotspot for lovers of live concerts.
Of all the music venues in West Hollywood, one that lives on in local lore is The Viper Room, known as much for its rock, metal, and punk shows as it is for being the place where actor River Phoenix died of a drug overdose. The venue still draws a mixed crowd of gritty locals and celebrity notables.
Having hosted the likes of The Doors, Janis Joplin, and Led Zeppelin before they were big-time headliners, Whisky a Go Go has been rocking out in WeHo since 1964, and continues to feature up-and-coming artists with some rowdy guitar riffs.
Another old-school West Hollywood music hangout is Troubadour. Open since 1957, it’s known for helping to launch the careers of famous names like Elton John, James Taylor, and Tom Waits. To this day, Troubadour continues to host cutting-edge musicians from around the world.
Other notable WeHo music venues are House of Blues and The Roxy Theatre. Sadly, longtime Sunset Strip haunt Key Club closed its doors for good in 2013.
