Exposition Park Information

Exposition Park is a 160-acre site located across the street from the University of Southern California. Originally founded in 1872 as an agricultural fairground primarily for farmers to sell their harvest, the area completely transformed in 1910. It is now regarded as one of Southern California’s premier tourist destinations, with approximately four million visitors each year.

The park encompasses many major institutions, including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the California Science Center, and the California African American Museum.

In addition, Exposition Park itself offers families of the surrounding community a variety of cultural, social, and educational activities at its Rose Garden and EXPO Center. Regular events at Exposition Park include movie screenings and food fairs.

Exposition Park User Reviews

Donna Dymally May 18, 2013 4.0 stars Fantastic Place for Walking Through a Rose Garden If you want to take a leisure walk through a scenic garden, Exposition Park is the place. Located near USC and the African American Museum it is a pleasurable park to leisurely stroll through on a sunny afternoon. It is free and you won't forget to smell the roses. The California Science Museum is aso there and you will love their interactive exhibits. It is also across from the Coliseum. For convenience the metro line runs doxn Exposition Boulevard so don't worry about parking or driving just come out and explore. You won't regret spending a day here.
Ana Sessions Nov 30, 2012 4.0 stars Pretty! I love the rose garden at Exposition park and it has great proximity to food and drink, museums and venues including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the Natural History Museum, the California Science Center, the California African American Museum. Definitely a cool place to walk around in when the weather is nice and I feel like it is often overlooked even by students in the area. I would recommend taking parents or family members next time they are around for a change in scenery or to try something new!
Margaret Lenker Nov 27, 2012 3.0 stars Wonderful for summer outings Street Food Cinema hosts movie events in Exposition Park during the summer. I saw Iron Man with my boyfriend in this park and it was such a wonderful date! There were food trucks, and many people picnicked. On game day tons of USC fans tailgate in Exposition Park. Although when there is not an event going on, I would not want to be in this park. I know there was a shooting here just today, and I don't think I'd feel safe just lying out here in the sun when I could do the same thing on campus. It's a great place to hold events, just not to hang out in at night alone.
Sami Goldberg Nov 23, 2012 3.0 stars Hidden Gem Exposition Park is often overshadowed by its impressive surroundings, which include the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the Natural History Museum, the California Science Center, the California African American Museum and of course the nearby institution of the University of Southern California. However, the beautiful park should not be overlooked. Exposition Park offers USC students and members of the downtown community a lovely site to spend the day. The flower gardens and fountains contribute to the peaceful, serene, and pretty atmosphere of the Park. It is a historical part of downtown Los Angeles and serves as an escape from the busy, urban feel of Los Angeles. It can be difficult to find natural beauty in LA, but Exposition Park is a little hideaway in the urbanized city. It is a family-friendly escape from the surrounding neighborhood, which can be sometimes overwhelming.
Jackie DeJesse Nov 16, 2012 3.0 stars Highly Underrated Although I have practically lived next door to Exposition Park for the last four years, I feel like I hardly know it at all. Besides it's most popular feature, the Coliseum, there are museums and a beautiful rose garden as well. I would highly recommend visiting the rose garden on a warm day and wandering through the maze of dazzling colors, it is absolutely stunning. I can only imagine how great it would be to bring a family here for the day and picnic on the lawn. The National History Museum and the California Science Center are also great places to visit rain or shine, and students get in for free! The science center also has an IMAX theater that screens documentaries and special science films that you pay separately for.
Lexie Shah Nov 13, 2012 3.0 stars Cool place to just hangout and explore Exposition park is right next to the University of Southern California Campus which is where I attend school so I find myself here often. It is home to the Coliseum where I find myself every saturday during USC football season! The place is filled with so much history it's a definite must-see. The park is also home to Natural History Museum and the Science Center where many of my teachers assign field trips there. Both, great if you want to explore and maybe even learn a little bit. Last but not least, the park is home to the Rose Garden. Everyone walking from campus to the coliseum has to go through it and it is a gorgeous rose garden where you can go to think or take a much needed break. Such a pretty area with a fountain that serves as a perfect place to sit and enjoy the sun!
Hanqing Zhu Oct 22, 2012 4.0 stars A Great Place to Relax and Learn There are many things to explore in the Exposition Park. Situated beside the USC University Park Campus, it contains the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which is the home for the Trojans and the host stadium of two Olympic Games and two Super Bowls. It is definitely worth visiting if you are a Southern California native. Every time you go from USC to the football game in Coliseum, you will likely to walk across or around the beautiful Rose Garden. As the name implies, it has many different kinds of roses that will make any girl fall in love with the place. It is definitely a spot for photos and even weddings, because there is also a fountain in the center of the garden, which allows you to sit and rest. Apart from sports and flowers, there are a handful of museums in Exposition Park to keep the public educated about subjects ranging from ancient history to modern technology. The only museum I have been to is the California Science Center, but I have been there several times. Most of the exhibits are free of charge and visitors can have an immersive experience of natural and theoretical science, such as earthquake simulation or sound diffraction. To sum up, a day is far less than enough for you to explore everything at the Exposition Park. That means you will definitely find your "things" once you arrive.
Jessica M Oct 4, 2012 4.0 stars So many things to explore Exposition Park is great. It has so many things to check out from the Rose Garden to the Natural History Museum and the California Science Center. I love these places and they are fun to check out and soak up some interesting factoids. The Natural History Museum is awesome and there is lots to see from special exhibits to gemstones to dinosaur bones. You could spend a whole day just poking around in this section of Exposition Park itself. The California Science Center is really cool too and has some neat things on display. With the space shuttle Endeavor moving there soon, you should definitely pay a visit to the California Science Center.
nlaureola Sep 7, 2012 3.0 stars Lots of things to do Exposition Park has quite a few parts. There are three museums, a rose garden, food trucks, and of course, the park itself. The Natural History Museum and California Science Center are must-sees just by reputation. There's a lot of cool stuff on permanent display, and both museums are known to hold public events in their exhibition spaces that are always pretty cool. The NHM does First Fridays certain seasons, and you pretty much just party and listen to live bands and djs will all these taxidermied animals. Kind of like Miracle Mile next to the LACMA, food trucks tend to park in the area -- and even on the grounds when there are events going on. And of course, there are always ice cream vendors. During the day there are usually a lot of kids in the park, and teenagers are all over the rose garden. There are little gazebos tucked away amongst the flowers, and the bushes are sometimes quite tall, so you'll occasionally stumble into awkward situation. But really, the whole place is under pretty strict surveillance all day and night, FYI.
