Brewery ArtWalk - Fall 2012 Art Exhibit Oct 20–21, 2012

A twice-annual event held at the massive Brewery Art Colony just south of Elysian Park in Los Angeles, Brewery ArtWalk is an amazing and free-to-attend art event where more than 100 resident-artists showcase their work.

Normally held from 11am–6pm, once in March/April and once in October, the Brewery ArtWalk draws curious art-lovers from all over the city and beyond, with thousands of people roaming galleries that showcase painting, sculpture, photography, industrial design, architecture, experimental new media, and more.

Originally the site of an Edison Electric power plant – with the looming 1903-era chimney to prove it – the Colony spent several decades as a Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery after the plant shut down. The 1980s brought the passing of the Artist-In-Residence code, however, which allowed artists to rent live/work space in industrially zoned buildings, and this vast expanse of 21 warehouses quickly became one of the largest art colonies in the entire world.

Parking at the Brewery ArtWalk is also free, so the only danger to an attendee’s wallet is if they happen to spy a piece of creative genius that they simply cannot live without. Most of the works displayed by participating artists at the Brewery ArtWalk are for sale.

Several food trucks and concessions stands are normally set up during the Brewery ArtWalk, and the complex also features a small dedicated restaurant, so it’s easy to take a break, fill up, and get back to enjoying the huge assortment of displays.
