Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Information

Located in the hub of downtown Los Angeles, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is a center for the arts and one of the halls in the Los Angeles Music Center. The Pavilion opened in 1964 with a debut performance by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by the famous Zubin Mehta.

With one of the largest stages in the country, the Pavilion provides a grandiose atmosphere for all audiences. The hall consists of four tiers including an orchestra section and a balcony. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion interior is elaborately decorated with chandeliers and grand staircases.

Historically, the venue served as the site for 24 Academy Awards ceremonies in the late 20th century. Today, the Pavilion, which rests in the company of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, is home to the Los Angeles Opera and Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance.

The iconic venue continues to put on productions and concerts that never disappoint. Notable productions and events at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion include the annual Holiday Celebration, a six-hour Christmas Eve special that is broadcast on KCET and features various dance and musical performers from Los Angeles County.

A Grandiose Theatre

Located in the center of downtown Los Angeles, the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion is central to the arts. It has one of the largest stages in the country and provides an atmosphere that audiences revere. It serves as a venue for productions and theatre performances. I recently attended the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater production and had the time of my life. I even got to dance onstage with the cast members. There is a cafe in the plaza and ample parking is privided for $9. You will revel in the architecture.
Glamorous Theatre with Beautiful Views

The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is the pièce de résistance of the LA Music Center. Located on the south end of the plaza at the corner of Grand and 1st Street the Pavilion was once home to the Academy Awards ceremony and the LA Philharmonic and is now home to the LA Opera. The grand theatre boasts four levels, enough to accommodate many price ranges. What sets this space apart is its modern architecture. Built in the early 1960s the building has floor to ceiling windows providing a view of the plaza and allowing a lot of natural light into the building. The modern architecture is offset by the rich décor. Huge crystal chandeliers, wide stairways, and rich red seats harken back to the glamorous 1960s. A wonderfully fun fountain is located in front of the building; the daring can be found racing through it before the jets of water mysteriously spring back up from the ground. The plaza has a café and is very pleasant to sit in with a beautiful view of Downtown LA. Ample parking is available in the lot for $9. The lot at the music center is the best parking option as early birds attending the evening’s festivities tend to snatch up any available street parking. A stop at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion guarantees a cultured evening in class and style.
Wonderful Theatre

The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is an excellent theatre. Every seat in the house offers a great view of the stage, even in the nose bleeds. I do have to say that the higher you sit, the steeper the climb is to your seat. I once sat at the very tip top of the theatre and felt like I was going to fall down the stairs when I was climbing up them. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion holds many theatre performances throughout the year. There is a nice little cafe right outside, so if you didn't have time for dinner you can grab something delicious before going to see a show.
