Academy Open-Air Movie Theatre Information

The Academy open-air movie theater, owned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, is an outdoor amphitheater located in the heart of Hollywood. Opened in 2012, the theater is set up on the Academy’s massive campus, alongside the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study.

The site consists of a lawn that can seat up to 350 people, a 40 by 20 foot screen, and a 10,000 square foot plaza for receptions.

During the summer, the venue hosts the “Oscar Outdoors” film series, showcasing different films on a weekly basis. Past screenings at the Academy open-air movie theater include Casablanca, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and The Goonies.

During the year, the venue serves both the Academy and the community as an event space, hosting special screenings and educational programs.
