Organized by ESPN, the annual X Games has showcased the best in extreme sports since 1995, and has been held in Los Angeles since 2001.

Normally scheduled in July or August, the X Games features a number of motocross, skateboarding, car racing, and BMX events, with competitors vying for bronze, silver, and gold in each category.

Historically, the X Games has been a place for elite athletes to showcase their latest tricks. Tony Hawk pulled his ridiculous 900-degree aerial spin during the games and Travis Pastrana executed a double backflip in freestyle motocross (without executing himself), while Heath Frisby landed the first-ever snowmobile front flip during one of the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado.

X Games is held at locations all over greater Los Angeles, including the Downtown facilities of LA Live, the Home Depot Center, and even south in Huntington Beach.

Additionally, X Fest takes over LA Live during the event and is free to the public, featuring exhibitions, demos, panels, and giveaways.

Tickets for the X Games range from $10–$50 depending on which event you wish to attend.

ESPN broadcasts all of the various competitions, which can make for an action-packed weekend even if you can’t be there in person.

Of course, the chance to see big names like Hawk, Pastrana, Shawn White, Bob Burnquist, Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, and Ryan Nyquist live and in the flesh will be hard for any fan to pass up.

ESPN has plans to host additional X Games in Barcelona, Munich, and Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil.
