Tommy Taco User Reviews

David Villarreal Jun 4, 2013 3.0 stars Finally, decent Mexican food! I love the Dream Fries and their burritos mojados (wet burritos) are very satisfying, especially when some of us are so far from our mom's authentic dining experience! I love the menu that ranges from burritos to burgers and fries. The place is hidden next to Fat Sal's, it's hard to point out of you are not looking for it. I was referred here by a friend and I have been going ever since. I recommend the carne asada (beef) Dream Fries, they come with guacamole, sour cream, carne asada or chicken, and all the fries you can dream of. I have never been able to finish a whole plate in one sitting so you get a good bang for your buck!
Lauren Nguyen May 22, 2013 4.0 stars Late Night Munchies When your roommate walks in with Tommy Taco at 2am and you haven't eaten in a while, it smells and looks like heaven. As with all food, it tastes best when you're hungry or have the drunchies. They're open pretty late (until 2am I believe?), so it's a good place to get food if nothing else is open, but beware of Thursday nights as this is where everyone flocks. I've only had their KTown Burrito, but that's because I love it so I get it every time. They pack their burritos with meat, so it's definitely worth the money. The meat is also pretty tender, which is how I like my meat. My boyfriend is big on Mexican cuisine and he's said that their chips (that come with the burrito) are better than most--they're extremely crispy and have a good taste, but I'd say they're a little oily. But keep in mind that they're cash only! I'd definitely recommend this place for anyone craving Mexican food.
Amy Tat May 15, 2013 3.0 stars Probably the best Mexican food you can get in Westwood Every UCLA student should try Tommy Taco at least once during their undergrad career. Like its next door neighbor Fat Sal's, t is more of a late night drunk food place, but I think there are a good number of customers during the day too. I ordered the Dream Fries which is what Tommy Taco is known for. Its one of those things that you love while you're eating and you feel extremely guilty after you're done. It's big enough to share or to save for multiple meals. I think most of the portions here are pretty decently sized. One of my friends who loves Mexican food ordered the carne asada tacos and she approved. One of my favorite things is that they sell horchata! Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but I don't know where else to get it in Westwood.
Addy Nunes Mar 10, 2013 3.0 stars Dreamin' of Dream Fries (and that CA Burrito) Tommy Taco's is a classic UCLA late stop to end a night out. The seating is outside and extremely limited but at that hour who cares? Two of my personal favorites are the dream fries and the California burrito. Dream fries are a heart attack waiting to happen but they are too legendary to not get at least once. The fries are packed with everything fries never ever really need but it just makes sense. The California burrito is a giant burrito that includes fries wrapped into it with the rest of the ingredients (carne asada, rice, guac, salsa, sour cream).
Sean Nguyen Feb 24, 2013 3.0 stars Drunchy mexican food Tommy Taco's is a fast food "restaurant" right next to Fat Sal's deli. Like Fat Sal's Tommy Taco's is essentially a kitchen with a tiny bar style seating arrangement out front. Most people go here for a quick lunch or for drunchies after a night out at UCLA. They open late and serve deliciously greasy mexican food so what's not to love. I'd highly recommend the dream fries (bacon, sour cream, guac, cheese- basically everything you ever wanted on fries but never gave into). They are indeed dreamy but if your health conscious they may not be so dreamy. Every time I go here though I get the kbbq burrito. Similar deal to the Kogi truck or the Calbi truck- a flour tortilla with korean bbq bulgogi, rice, and pickled veggies (kimchi) on the inside. Served with tortilla chips and salsa. The fusion is delicious and very satisfying. I've had the kbbq burrito with extra bacon once (which made it a kind of ridiculous $9) but it was worth it. May not make your waistline happy but it'll hit the spot.
Brian Kamata Feb 12, 2013 2.0 stars Overrated, but you won't care If you go late at night, prepare for the drunks, this is where UCLA students go after a night of partying. Tommy taco is basically a food stand, having a central "booth" where the order is taken, and the food is made. There are less than ten actual seats around the booth where people can eat (this is outdoors, next to the sidewalk). The portions are very large, with the burritos being well over a foot and weight over a pound. The most popular items are the dream fries (the worst thing that you can ever eat-fries with nacho cheese, bacon, sour cream, and guacamole), and the California Burrito (carne asada with french fries, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, and pico de gallo). Prices are pretty low considering the portions that are served, giving it the nick name "buck fifty's" because the tacos used to be $1.50 (burritos are $5-8, and the fries are about $5). They also take credit, so don't worry about cash-only. If you're hungry, and its late at night, Tommy taco will be open. Just go. You'll be satisfied.
Lauren Gennawey Feb 1, 2013 2.0 stars Westwood's Best Mexican Drunchies My Advice/My Take: Tommy Taco is a fun, hole-in-the-wall food place that UCLA students hit up late on weekend nights when the drunchies kick in. Need to Know: Tommy Taco is popular among college students, but only go when you're drunk. Patrons go more for the social aspect than for the food. The Westwood community judges anyone who eats Tommy Taco while sober as being unhealthy and having horrible taste. Tommy Taco doesn't quite do justice to the term "restaurant". There is no area inside to sit, and there are just a few chairs outside the area where you order food. It's basically a hut that serves greasy, delicious, Mexican food to go. Who's Hanging Out There/What's the Vibe: UCLA students hang out here at night. During the day, it's pretty empty. Fat Sal's, another drunchie "restaurant" is right next door, so the crowd around this area gets pretty big on Thursday and Friday nights. Cuisine: The most famous item is the Dream Fries (a pie tin of fries, covered in cheese, bacon, sour cream, and avocado). I also recommend the chili cheese fries and the horchata. The Cali Style burrito (sour cream, cheese, avocados, fries, meat, salsa, no beans, and no rice) is also popular. What to Wear: Anything goes. This is as casual as a food place can get. What Does it Cost: The Dream Fries are $6, the burritos are $5-$7, the tacos are $2-$3, and the burgers are $3-$5. When to Go: People only go to Tommy Taco at night time, when they're drunk, after hitting up the frats and bars. Tommy Taco tastes wonderful when drunk, but not when sober. If you go between midnight and 3am on any given night, you're sure to see plenty of drunk college students satisfying their drunchies. It can be quite entertaining.
