Party Earth Dillon's Irish Pub Review

The Scene

With waitresses in scanty schoolgirl uniforms and a half dozen TV screens on a constant sports loop, Dillon's Irish Pub has transformed the traditional dark-wood Celtic sports bar into a near perfect frat guy's hangout.

Hollywood, Los Angeles –

With waitresses in schoolgirl uniforms and a half dozen TV screens on a constant sports loop, Dillon’s Irish Pub has transformed the traditional dark-wood Celtic bar into a near perfect sports-lovers hangout.

Just past the tall wooden doors, the baseball-cap-wearing set will find a wide, high-ceilinged ale hall where they can lounge on comfortable leather chairs in the main room or chill out in the dimly-lit nooks by the immense windows that offer a great view onto the busy sidewalk.

There’s no doubt that a sporty vibe rules here, as evidenced by the gaggles of fans gathered around the polished wood bar and its giant flat-screen TVs, alternately rooting for their favorite teams and flirting with the attractive wait staff.

Patrons who prefer to relax over a game of pool can head up the elegant central staircase to the loft area, where spirited conversation and friendly competition keep the atmosphere upbeat but never too rowdy.

In a neighborhood full of velvet ropes and cover charges, Dillon’s offers a no-hassle alternative for both guys and gals looking for a laid-back evening of sports or a night of getting toasted on three buck beers with a group of friends.

Tip from Lucas:

The valet parking at Dillon’s is five bucks, as opposed to the twenty bucks and up that the surrounding lots are asking. Save some cash and park at Dillon’s, even if you’re headed to a different bar in the neighborhood.

Energetic and affable sports lovers, mostly 20s to 30s.

  • Entertainment / Music

iPod playlist of Top 40 hits. Flat screen TVs tuned to sports. Pool table.

  • Food / Miscellaneous

Typical bar food including sandwiches, burgers, pasta, seafood, and steaks.

  • Prices

    Appetizers $7–$15, entrées $11–$24. Beer $3, wine $4+, cocktails $5+. Valet $5.

  • What to Wear / Dress Code

Casual uniform of jeans, t-shirts, and baseball caps.

  • Hot Nights / When to Go

Fridays and Saturdays or during a televised sporting event.

  • Close By

Big Wangs (1562 North Cahuenga Boulevard) is another unpretentious neighborhood hangout for watching sports.

Dillon's Irish Pub User Reviews

Alfredo Madrid May 18, 2013 4.0 stars Smooth Drinking Located on the cusp of the land of shattered dreams in Hollywood, Dillon's Irish Pub is without a doubt one of the most glorious and grand partying locations on the strip. At a rate of three dollars for any pint, be it an all American PBR or refreshing Stella Artois, Dillon's offers not only a unique mix of pleasure seekers, but mingles the crowd with an array of impeccably dressed and attractive bar tenders. The upstairs area offers a billiards table, free of charge, where several local pool sharks showcase their skills. Adorned with a dining area both upstairs and downstairs, one is likely to view any type of athletic competition on the several television monitors. The doormen are a bit rough, but, just slip them your ID and you will be on your way to a fantastic time. The men's bathroom even has service, whereupon a tip can get you a few towels and even some candy if you so desire. If you are new to the area, or just visiting, Dillon's is definitely not an experience you'll want to miss, even if most dreams are broken on that boulevard, rest assured that several probably began right there on Vine and Hollywood.

David Apr 11, 2013 4.0 stars God Bless Ireland! Located at the famous Hollywood/Vine intersection, plus being right across from the Red Line, Dillons is a great place to go and not worry about driving home. The waitresses are flirtatious and sport little school girl outfits to give the feeling of Ireland - and let's just say Ireland is the LAST place on my mind when I'm here. The building is beautiful like an old Middle Earth setting. As soon as you walk in, a big spiral stair case goes up to the top deck where there's more seating and pool tables. There's a section to dine, a big bar with a lot of seating, and even a more intimate bar in the back where you can have great conversations. It is always a hang out for people in Hollywood - the regulars are very loyal and love to munch the Avocado Fries (Yes, there is such a thing!) Not only Avocado Fries - but their entire menu is completely unique from everything that Hollywood has to offer. Right next door is the Pantages Theater. Dinner, Theater, and Drinks! All on the same block. Who can beat that? The staff is very respectful, the bouncers are charming, and the drinks are at a great price. $3 Beers! God Bless Ireland...
Serina Mariela Mar 5, 2013 2.0 stars Dillon's I've gone here multiple times to just "chill" with friends. I really enjoyed the food and the drinks are cheap. It's right on Hollywood Blvd, so if you decide you want to dance or go to another bar there is the Avalon or Roxbury right there. Like I said, we were there to just catch up and watch a game and I think it's the perfect little place for that. Especially if you're new to the city and not sure where to start off.
Robin Joey Feb 27, 2013 4.0 stars A Renaissance Bar (figuratively) Dillon's Irish Pub has become one of my favorite bars in Los Angeles, because of It's reasonable prices, ambiance, and well allocated space. As a Midwesterner coming to LA I thought that I wasn't going to be able to afford to go out until I had reached Clooney status, but on my first night out I went to Dillon's and was pleasantly surprised. The bar was gorgeous and so was the wait staff. Granted, I am a kid from the Midwest, so my standards might not be as high as most natives. The bar has a dining area perfect for dates and people who are just looking for a nice meal out. It also has a bar rail with TVs above for sports fans and a pool table mezzanine area for those who are looking for something a little more quiet. The crowd at Dillon's is always a lot of fun, and their bouncers do a great job of handling the riff raff at the first sign of trouble. If you haven't been to Dillon's yet I suggest you head over tonight for a Longboard and some fired calamari.
RayaSue Jan 22, 2013 3.0 stars Lively Vibe, Vast Selection Dillon’s Irish Pub offers a casual, lively atmosphere whether it’s for time for the playoffs or simply a quick stop along the Boulevard. I have always found it easy to slide in at the bar for $3 pint and some tasty oysters. The schoolgirl-clothed staff and knowledgeable bartenders are always on point to offer insights into which of Dillon’s many beers are the best fit for your meal. Better yet, a glass was never left dry as they check in often to get another order placed if desired. On the weekends, elbowroom tends to be a little tight, but it’s still worth jumping in for some Irish vibes.
richardbrea11 Jan 9, 2013 3.0 stars Dillon's Irish Pub is my go-to bar. Maybe I'm just biased, but I love Dillon's. I love the $3 beers and I love the bartenders there. I love the atmosphere but I hate when they close at 1:45 am (sometimes 1:30am). Their selection of beer is great. You can always catch a game while you're here or check out some highlights. There is usually music playing but it's never too loud that you can't hear the person next to you. There's a second floor and there's a pool table there. That floor is a bit small but it's good if you want to get away from everything. if I'm going to a bar, I prefer Dillon's. I like the service and I'm more of a beer guy. The fact that I don't have to worry about spending a fortune is a plus.
Brittney Black Dec 3, 2012 3.0 stars Yes yes yes! Dillon's is great if you're single, or have a significant other who doesn't have insecurity issues, ha! Anyway, pints here are cheap so your ass can forget how many you've had. For $3 a pint you and your friends can take turns buying rounds and not go broke! Weekends it definitely gets packed so come early or wait in line, just remember when rainy season comes along, bring an umbrella. They have a super wide variety of taps so go crazy and don't be afraid to try something new, because money here should not be an issue. Staff is friendly so don't get upset if it takes to long to order, this place is swarming like a beehive. I do not recommend this place for people who are shy, don't like socializing with other people other than their friends, or like to start beef over someone who spilled their drink.
Anthony Mendoza Nov 1, 2012 3.0 stars Irish celebration headquarters! This has to be my favorite place to celebrate St Pattys Day and college football on Saturdays (GO IRISH!). It has a divey feel, along with a typical LA bar feeling. The prices are reasonable! Last saturday we went to enjoy the ND/ Oklahoma football game and the beers on tap were $3! Yes, $3! We had an amazing time, the place is always buzzing somehow! If you are looking for a laid back bar without the stress of an expensive bar tab or crazy dress codes, this is the place for you and your sports loving friends! We always have an awesome time coming here!
Daniel B Oct 17, 2012 2.0 stars Decent Bar Stuffed Full of "Irish" Kitsch Dillon's is a decent bar with decent prices. That being said, it's about a few degrees above a dive bar in terms of atmosphere. The drinks are reasonably priced and aren't watered down a ton like some of the places nearby. The waitresses are really friendly, but for some reason they have to wear sexy schoolgirl outfits (because nothing bring to mind the Emerald Isle like a super short tartan). If you do wind up here some night, go for drinks and skip the overpriced greasy food. Overall, Dillon's is about as Irish as your run of the mill American St. Patrick's Day party.
princess_die Oct 5, 2012 3.0 stars Exactly what the guy below me said... Dillon's is great if you're single, or have a significant other who doesn't have insecurity issues, ha! Ian Camacho Aug 21, 2012 2.0 stars Basically an Irish Hooters The resemblance to Hooters is quite striking: All the staff are females, and in very skimpy Irish Catholic schoolgirl outfits and very flirty. The food is mostly typical bar food with the occasional bit of Guinness battered rings, or corned beef sandwich to add 'Irish' flavor to the place. And it's essentially a sports bar. The only good reason to go are the $3 pint beers. If you are simply looking for cheap drinks in the Hollywood area, this is the place to be. If you go during the day you might be able to find street parking a few blocks away, but good luck doing so at night... at least the $5 valet is reasonable. Probably not the best place to take your significant other if they the jealous type (and if so, why are you with them?!) But worth going for a guys night out or just to get your drink on before going to the pricier, trendier venues in the area.
Clark Watts Aug 16, 2012 3.0 stars Cheap beers, so-so atmophere If your account balance dictates that you need to choose price over ambiance, there might be no better bar in LA to resign yourself than Dillon's Irish Pub. Dillon's offers everything from Coors Light to Arrogant Bastard at 3 dollars a pint, ALL the time. You read that right. Choose your favorite from nearly 40 beers on tap, and dodge all the ones flying past your head from the sometimes less than savory crowd. Unfortunately, Dillon's leaves something to be desired in the patron/atmosphere department. I suppose if they had christened it Dillon's Interchangeable Sports Bar, no one would show. There's very little Irishness to be found here. Sure, they dress the all female staff in skimpy Irish Catholic school girl outfits, there's plenty of dark mahogany looking wood paneling and a St. Patrick's Day countdown clock, but the overall effect is about as Irish as your buddy Todd wearing a green shirt on March 17th.. If you order food or any booze harder than beer, you're playing right into their scheme. Price wise, that's where the money's at for them. Dillon's offers the standard selection of libations at typical Hollywood prices and a fairly generic sports bar food menu with a couple Irish favorites thrown in to compliment the namesake, like “Guinness Stout Chili” and “Traditional Irish Stew.” But your best bet is to stick with what Dillon's does right: cheap beer. Save your appetite for Umami down the street!
