“Now, LA isn’t perfect – the city is way too big, it takes forever to drive from one side to the other, and there’s no real unifying sports identity – but by no means is that a deterrent to soaking up all the city has to offer. Sure, the stereotypical celeb-packed Hollywood clubs with lines around the block actually exist, but there’s so much more – like Central LA and Downtown, which are full of hassle-free, rowdy bars with hot dance floors and boozed-up girls. Then there’s the west side of town, which has plenty of beachfront party spots and awesome sports bars. And of course there’s the killer weather – in a place where it’s almost always sunny, it’s easy to fill your days with everything from volleyball at the beach or hoops at the tons of public courts to running up Runyon Canyon with all the cute fledgling actresses. So it’s not perfect, but riding in a convertible every day does have its perks.”

“In terms of glitz and glam, LA is undeniably one of the world’s hottest destinations. The ever-changing Hollywood nightlife scene is très fab – an abundance of posh dance clubs and sleek ultra-lounges allow the well-connected to rub elbows with fashionably-dressed celebs and assorted beautiful people any night of the week. Hordes of paparazzi are always stationed outside, and by the time they’ve sent their photos of stumbling starlets to Us Weekly, the in-crowd has already moved on to the next hotspot. LA is also a shopper’s mecca, with some of the world’s trendiest designer boutiques lining the streets in areas like Rodeo Drive, Robertson Boulevard, Melrose Place, Montana Avenue, and Third Street. And when your feet get too tired from strolling in this season’s Miu Mius, simply head over to a chic hotel pool, lay out in a cabana, or have a mimosa-laced brunch at a swanky spot like Barney’s Greengrass or Chateau Marmont. Just be sure to smile and wave as you strut by George and Leo in your Celine & Philip Lim.”

“LA’s music history is filled with legends from the Beach Boys and the Eagles to Beck, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and NWA – and the hallowed halls that hosted them are second to none. The Sunset Strip alone has The Viper Room, Whiskey A Go Go, and House of Blues, while West Hollywood is home to the Troubadour. Then there’s the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek for unmatched outdoor concerts, massive arenas for the biggest names in music…and the list goes on. Beyond the music, LA’s nightlife is packed with authentic, colorful, and alternative speakeasies, ironic theme bars, and craft cocktail lounges in areas like Silver Lake, Downtown, and the artsy Culver City. The near-perfect weather means that just about any day is good for outdoor activity, whether it’s hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains, hitting up Melrose Avenue for the latest in punk trends, catching one of LA’s amazing festivals like Sunset Junction, or simply chilling on the beaches of Malibu, lying back at a beach shack with some tunes and a perfect sunset.”

“One thing is guaranteed – you’ll never be bored in LA. With so much going on, there seems to be something new to do everywhere you turn – and if you can’t figure out a way to spend your time, well…you’re just not trying hard enough! During the day, it’s super-easy to find stuff, from flea markets, farmers’ markets, and first-class people-watching, to yoga classes, nature hikes, and even horseback riding in the Hollywood Hills. Following the tourist trail can be highly entertaining too, whether it’s getting your pic taken with Marilyn Monroe lookalikes on Hollywood Boulevard, soaking up the weirdness of the Venice Boardwalk, or buying a star map and searching for celebrity mansions. Evenings also provide endless opportunities to throw yourself headfirst into LA’s fun culture and history, whether it’s catching a late-night cult movie screening at the Hollywood Cemetery, taking an art walk in Downtown or Culver City, partying at the karaoke bars in Koreatown, or heading to the cheap comedy shows and bopping dance venues in West Hollywood. And to top it all off, there’s the always-bustling monthly First Friday event on Venice’s hip Abbot Kinney Boulevard. So if you’re still at a loss, try a little harder to find your niche – LA may be a big city, but it’s definitely filled with lots of small towns.”
