The Baked Potato, named “Best Jazz Club” in 2010 by LA Magazine, first opened in LA’s studio city neighborhood in 1970, and has been playing Jazz seven nights a week ever since. Owner and composer/musician, Don Randi, would often partake in live performances with his band Quest for years after the club first opened its doors.
Though it’s a small venue, the Baked Potato is commended for its very personal and intimate vibe. Its wooden walls are almost completely hidden by old photographs and flyers, giving the space a grittier and more laid-back feel than some other high-end jazz joints.
For years the Baked Potato has been the site of live music tapings and music videos. Performances at the Baked Potato have served as big-breaks for several jazz performers, such as Kenny G, Larry Carlton, and Tom Scott. Not only do famous jazz musicians frequent the venue, but celebrity jazz lovers as well. Some regulars include Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro, Lucy Liu, and Geoffrey Rush.
Not only does the Baked Potato offer amazing music, but it also boasts some of the best baked potatoes around, thus giving the venue its unique name. The Baked Potato serves up more than 20 types of massive, loaded baked potatoes, weighing in at 15-20 ounces a potato.
The venue is suitable for jazz lovers of all ages. Cover may vary, and there is a parking lot available in the back, as well as street parking and valet.
