The Scene

Perched high atop the swank Huntley Hotel is The Penthouse, a dazzling, ultra-mod restaurant/lounge where a slightly older clientele of affluent Westsiders meets and mingles.

Perched high atop the swank Huntley Hotel is The Penthouse, a dazzling, ultra-mod restaurant/lounge where a slightly older clientele of affluent Westsiders meets and mingles.

Expansive windows offer transcendent 360-degree views of everything from the ocean to the Santa Monica Mountains to downtown Los Angeles, creating a vibe that is part South Beach, part under-the-sea.

Although the gorgeous panorama and two airy white dining rooms make The Penthouse a popular Sunday brunch spot, the real action heats up when the city lights begin to twinkle.

Curtained cabanas provide an ideal place to chill out and take in the sunset with a group of friends earlier in the evening, while later on the adjacent bar area becomes prime hunting ground for the moneyed singles and divorcées who prowl around the circular glass-topped bar and sip tasty signature cocktails.

Couples who’d like to get better acquainted can retire to the oversized leather wing chairs in the romantic lounge to cozy up next to the long, low fireplace, or stare up at the stars through the impressive skylight.

Patrons in search of a rowdy club crowd won’t find it here, where the active singles scene is decidedly for grownups who don’t mind spending a little money.

An elegant hideaway, The Penthouse offers a relaxing atmosphere where stylish professionals can feel right at home meeting old friends or making new ones.

Great No Matter What Time of Day
Stephanie D. Jun 26, 2013
The Penthouse is the perfect restaurant for LA. Just like the servers working there, it is always just moonlighting. It is a great place to take your parents for brunch before heading out to the pier, or if you just wait long enough it turns into one of Santa Monica's best bars. In LA most places fall into one of two categories-- too scene-y or too dull, but The Penthouse walks the line and never falls into the trap. Bottom line, go for the view in the morning, and stay for the party at night.
Legendary (but pricey)
Gerard Nash G. Jun 3, 2013
I was treated to this place by my co-workers and I would have to say that this place is, as Barney Stinson would say, "Legend...ary". First off, this place is definitely pricey so expect to spend a around ~$30 - $40 on a good meal. That being said, the food is so amazing and the venue really helps to augment the positive experience from eating here. The scenery is beautiful, especially since you're on the top floor of the Huntley Hotel looking down towards the Hollywood or all of Santa Monica. The drinks are to die for, especially the Coconut Espresso Martini, which definitely works with the Wild Shrimp. There's also scented candles and music that really make for a pleasant experience. If you're looking for something high-end, but don't mind spending quite a bit, then this is the place for you.
Sunday Brunch Spot
Kate K. Mar 25, 2013
I have only been here for Sunday brunch, but I enjoyed it tremendously. We got bottomless mimosas, which were very well made and were quickly refilled. The food was delicious, from the breakfast sandwich to the Belgian waffles. There are gorgeous views of the Santa Monica beach, so I would definitely recommend trying to get a window spot! There is valet at the hotel, which is convenient as parking can be a bit tough to find in the area. I am looking forward to going back for lunch/dinner, but feel that it is the best for a nice and elegant brunch.
Breathtaking Views and Mouthwatering Food
Taylor B. Mar 20, 2013
Santa Monica offers some of the most exquisite views on the West Coast, and the Huntley Hotel is the most divine place to enjoy them. Featuring a chic, contemporary restaurant atop of a swanky hotel, the Penthouse at the Huntley features stunning decor and mouthwatering food to compliment. As my favorite go-to special occasion spot, I have been nothing but pleased while dining at the Penthouse for Valentine's Day as well as my boyfriend's birthday this spring. Featuring luxurious white chandeliers and light blue velvet tones, you truly feel immersed in a Californian paradise, with beautiful flowers, candles, and group tables secluded in airy white curtains. Not only is the decor elegant-yet-trendy, but the menu features delectable meals to accompany such a beautiful setting. From truffle pizza that hits every taste bud, to indulgent-yet-light steak tartare, creamy pappardelle with fresh garden ingredients, steak fries, and charred sweet corn with a modern-Mexican twist of lime, salt and chile, the menu offers something for everyone (not to mention incredible desserts that satisfy the sweet tooth...caramelized crepes with vanilla custard and fresh berries, anyone?) For a special evening to remember, the Penthouse at the Huntley is the perfect ambiance to celebrate a special occasion, or simply enjoy the stunning ocean views and one of their specialty cocktails.
The Penthouse will have you hooked! Spectacular views and more
Tanisha Q. Jan 31, 2013
The Penthouse @ The Huntley Hotel is one Santa Monica’s trendiest nightlife hot spots. As you step off the elevator you are immersed in a modern abyss of white chandeliers and baby blue velvet décor situated inside curtained cabanas. A glass circular bar welcomes Westside industry elite and local partygoers to signature libations and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. The Penthouse is an ideal place for a romantic dinner date, to throw a perfect party or have a night out with friends. The DJ spins top 40 hits that will have you glued to the dance floor. Their cucumber martini is to die for, the bathrooms are clean and there is a late night menu for those last minute cravings. Everyone wants to live on the Penthouse level, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. You’ll be hooked after your first visit; the ambiance alone will have you coming back for more.
LA's Finest
Shelby G. Jan 9, 2013
Nestled upon the top floor of The Huntley Hotel in Santa Monica, The Penthouse offers an upscale dining experience or a chic venue to grab drinks with friends for any occasion. Boasting floor to ceiling windows that mask every wall, The Penthouse has become famous for its 360-degree views of the Santa Monica area complimented by an elaborate menu of food and drinks. The Penthouse atmosphere caters to the desires of its patrons, proposing arrangements like traditional restaurant seating, intimate cabanas concealed behind white curtains or cozy nooks featuring oversized, velvety chairs warmed by a fire. Those who visit The Penthouse must dress to impress, as the stylish restaurant is flared by contemporary flavors and posh clientele. If you desire a warm, yet fashionable restaurant experience and mingling with sophisticated socialites that LA has to offer, The Penthouse is your destination.
Amazing Views!
Kirsten H. Nov 30, 2012
The Penthouse restaurant is located in the upscale Huntley Hotel. While the food is good, the views are absolutely stunning. The restaurant takes up the top floor of the hotel and all the walls are windows, so you have a 360 degree view of Los Angeles. The decor is beautiful as well; all the furniture is white and the booths feature draping sheer white curtains. Great place for a date as well as a group of your friends. Also, it's a great place for people watching. Brunch is a lively scene at the restaurant as well. I definitely recommend The Penthouse to anyone looking for a sophisticated and fun restaurant.
Splurge

Brunch was delicious, the decor was stunning. Great view and you pay for it.
Trendy, Clean, Good, but slightly overpriced.
Nicole J. Nov 18, 2012
Located in the posh Huntley Hotel, the Penthouse offers a cool, semi-fancy dining experience. If you’re in Santa Monica, I highly recommend going here for dinner. The food is delicious and I recommend ordering a bunch of dishes and sharing. The atmosphere is light, clean, trendy. It’s a little overpriced, but you’re paying more for the atmosphere. It’s a great view of Santa Monica, and I recommend sitting in one their “booth” seating areas, with the white couches and canopies. I’d also recommend this spot for a drink if you’re not in the mood for a full dinner or just want to meet a friend before going out.
Interesting

While the food is great, the atmosphere skews cougar. The decor is fun, and the view is great, but if your not looking for a cougar, its not the best date night spot. It is, however, good for people watching if your date isnt much of a talker...
