Party Earth Bar Marmont Review

The Scene

Classically posh and surprisingly accessible, the enchanting Bar Marmont is a popular haunt for Hollywood denizens of all stripes who love good food and conversation.

West Hollywood, Los Angeles –

Classically posh and surprisingly accessible, the enchanting Bar Marmont is a popular haunt for Hollywood denizens of all stripes who love good food and conversation.

Just inside, patrons are greeted by a lounge area whose trussed ceilings, skylights, and hanging plants create the feel of an airy outdoor café where everyone from affluent entertainment industry types to scruffy musicians lounge on leather ottomans to smoke and discuss their latest projects.

French doors lead to a tiny bohemian bar decked out in flowered wallpaper, surreal Asian-inspired artwork, and a smattering of tables where tourists and professionals on dates gather to chit-chat over excellent cocktails.

Those who prefer a little more space to indulge in selections from the delectable menu can step down to the elegant dining room – whose old-Hollywood décor of plush red banquettes, lace draping, mirrors, and walls of ivory molding are presided over by an oil painting of Ho Chi Minh – or gather at the second bar where red silk lanterns cast a warm glow on the stuffed peacocks, the pinned butterfly specimens on the ceiling, and the stylish clientele of celebs, hipsters, and internationals.

Although the vibe is generally low-key, the lights go down and the music goes up after 11pm when a younger and more vivacious crowd trickles in.

Definitely more hopping on the weekends, Bar Marmont nonetheless has plenty to offer all week long, whether patrons show up for a swanky dinner date, pre-club cocktails with a group of friends, or an intimate tête-a-tête in some dimly-lit nook.

Tip from Adriana:

If you love fabulous cocktails, you’ve got to try the Sun Goddess – an amazing mix of Belvedere vodka, Lillet, lemon juice, simple syrup, mint, and muddled grapes. To die for!

Bar Marmont User Reviews

Sarah Hafeez May 5, 2013 3.0 stars Great lounge Bar Marmont is the perfect combination of sophisticated and laid-back. The crowd is usually late 20s to early 40s. You'll see a wide variety to people here, ranging from tourists to professionals to aspiring actors. In my experience, this lounge has been on the quite side on weeknights (even Thursday night) but it's very crowded on Fridays and Saturdays. It's also a great place to go after work for some drinks and appetizers or even dinner. Their salted pistachio crumble is truly mouthwatering. Also, it's not listed on the drinks menu, but their moscow mules might be the best I've had in LA. In terms of attire, it ranges from very casual to formal. Overall, this is a charming venue filled with a classy crowd.
Joseph Roberts Jan 19, 2013 4.0 stars The Last Hip and Cozy Retreat Located in the center of West Hollywood, Bar Marmont’s uniquely fire red décor is imbued with benevolent metallic butterflies lightly glued to the ceiling. The gregarious doorman courteously awaits your arrival and offers a kind gesture as you anxiously climb the stairs welcoming you home. Bar Marmont has established itself as one of the last elite hip Hollywood bars that rarely adheres to a stringent guest list. However, the affordable dining, which specializes in French appetizers, will eventually become shrouded and inundated by club-goers, perhaps before your ready—private diners be weary. Drink prices are relatively high, yet worth it, if you want to stand and mingle in the darkly captivating atmosphere. Marmont offers private parties at affordable prices as well. A cozy back patio, sheltered by large invasive shrubbery, secludes you from urban reality and places you in some atmospheric garden.
Alaena Hostetter Dec 17, 2012 3.0 stars Doesn't Disappoint This charming Sunset hotspot is a decadently furnished retreat that offers visitors grand accommodations for enjoying Bar Marmont’s hand-crafted cocktails and cuisine. The interior hearkens back to “old Hollywood” at its most luxurious with gold-encrusted light fixtures illuminating black fur-paneled walls, red silk fringed pendant lamps casting a warm hue over the bar and monarch butterflies adorning the ceiling of the main bar area. Friendly bar staffers are eager to serve and engage in good-natured banter with the regular customers. Clientele include mostly Hollywood industry folks and during off-hours they are delightfully low-key and mostly keep to themselves. Order one of Bar Marmont’s signature cocktails like the Westside, a vodka, citrus and mint concoction, that is smooth and refreshing and goes down a bit too easily. Menu winners include the mac’n cheese, rightfully gooey and satisfying, and the pistachio crumb cake served with ice cream, a buttery, crunchy delectable treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth. Bar Marmont has several drinking and dining areas and a smokers lounge enclosed patio at the front. The options for enjoying a night out abound, and Bar Marmont doesn’t disappoint.
sholmes55 Dec 3, 2012 3.0 stars Bar before going out in Hwood Far more accessible than the Chateau Marmont restaurant/ bar (where reservations are necessary), the Bar Marmont is still a place to see and be seen. However, i recommend if you are making the trip out to WeHo to make reservations at the hotel restaurant for drinks. I prefer the vibe much more and the decor. Iv'e been to the Bar Marmont on Thursday and Saturdays...Thursday was way less bustling. Drinks are nothing too special for the steep price. But the Mojitos are amazing!
Kirsten Harman Nov 30, 2012 2.0 stars Hollywood Vibe Bar Marmont is located next to the famous Chateau Marmont hotel. If you are into the LA scene this place is perfect for you. It's a cool place to check out though even if your not into it. This bar is definitely a "people watching" kind of place. There is usually a line outside, but doesn't take more than 15 minutes. The drinks were great and the service was pretty good as well. The bar has an old fashioned feel and had a DJ playing. I probably won't be coming back anytime soon, but I would recommend to check it out.
Rachel Schwartz Nov 30, 2012 3.0 stars Super Sceney Bar Marmont is fun to go to when you are just looking for a casual hang out but you still want to be in the heart of the action. It is very classy however it is not as intense as going to a club in hollywood. The guest list is usually more upscale but the venue is very small. The last time I went I came with a big group of people and it was a lot of fun. The service was not my favorite because they seemed a little snobby but their drinks are very good. I recommend coming here but it wouldnt be my first choice when deciding to go out.
sarahbink Nov 28, 2012 2.0 stars Very LA You should go at least once. It's a taste of the celebrity scene and very LA. You never know who you will run into.
jsunmatthews Oct 18, 2012 2.0 stars Great place to experience the Hollywood butthead stereotype. Look, it’s pretty. It’s in the middle of the famed hotel. It has that cool Hollywood feel. I’d go once just for that. It’s also rife with the stereotypical fuktard wannabe actor, aspiring model, industry putz, fat banker, and Lindsay Lohan-imitator you could imagine. Oh wait, no, that actually IS Lindsay Lohan. I can’t believe she is still alive, must be the pickling. On the two times I had to go here (emphasize on had), some chick asked me if “was somebody important?” So yeah, if you’re into that or you got a big movie deal coming out or your just another talent-less hack who thinks hanging out with other talent-less hacks is the key to success, head right on in. Oh, wait, no I mean get in line. And wait. And wait. And wait.
Chris Morgan Sep 5, 2012 3.0 stars Swanky and expensive, but approachable I went to Bar Marmont for an alumni event for my college on a weekday evening expecting to feel completely out of place, as I normally frequent dive bars where you can always get a PBR for $3 if you want. I got dressed up and parked a quarter mile away to avoid valet parking and entered unsure of what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by the vibe. The event had some hosted food but not drinks so I did purchase a couple $8 beers and $14 cocktails which is a bit much but the cocktails were very good. The appetizers were meat and cheese plates and delicious - some fine charcuterie. Although we were at a private event in the front lounge area, I walked around a little and found the place to be less pretentious than expected. The built-in furnishings were very comfortable though as the crowd picked up it was hard to find a way to make everyone comfortable. The crowd, both in my group and others, had a lot of industry types discussing films and projects but as I tuned out I got to check out some of the unique architecture of the lounge. The staff was welcoming, especially as many of our group may not have been as free-spending as other patrons and all in all I had a fun time stepping out of my element into a trendy LA lounge. The other review is right, it is accessible but still swanky and not too outrageous if you need a fancier night.
sgunther Aug 14, 2012 3.0 stars A Completely Accessible Marmont If you don't think you have a shot of getting into the Chateau, never fear - you'll still have a great time at Bar Marmont on Sunset. The crowd here is pretty diverse, but very cool. And, while it's definitely a scene, it's minimally pretentious. I can't remember what I've drank here, but I know it was yummy. The decor and vibe here are unique and LA in the best way. And while you may not recognize everyone, you know they know someone, who is someone. I'd recommend Bar Marmont to anyone who is in from out of town and wants a taste of the celebrity scene, but is a bit intimidated by some of the spots with tough doors. You'll probably find what you're looking for here. Interesting drinks, good looking people, and the general feeling of cool confidence.
