For years lobster lovers in California could only dream of and drool over Maine’s fresh and relatively cheap seasonal catch. But all that changed in 1999 with the first Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival. For a weekend in mid-September, over 40,000 come to the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro to celebrate the sea and to eat fresh Maine lobster at a big discount.
The Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival won the 2009 Guinness World Record for the Most Seafood Served at an Outdoor Event and each year brings in even more visitors eager to get their fill of sustainable Maine lobster. With plenty of seafood and live musical performances by local bands gaining national attention like Races, Dum Dum Girls, NO, and Youngblood Hawke, it’s no wonder that the Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival has become one of the biggest seafood festivals in the country.
Tickets to the Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival are around $10 and admission is free for children under the age of 12. Tickets for lobster meals are around $19 or for the adventurous, $33 for two lobsters. After you’ve had your fill of crustacean, check out the onsite carnival rides or try your hand at winning any of the various carnival games.
