Oktoberfest at Alpine Village 2012 Description

Oktoberfest at Alpine Village - Beer Festival in Los Angeles.

Munich may reign supreme when it comes to celebrating Oktoberfest, but the annual Oktoberfest at Alpine Village in Torrance, CA gives Deutschland a run for its Euros, and has since the event first went up in 1968.

Running for eight gloriously frothy weeks from September through October, Oktoberfest at Alpine Village seeks to recreate this signature celebration of German drink with oom-pah-pah bands – all flown in from the mother land – German beers, and lots of authentic Bratwurst and Polish sausages.

Alpine Village is a popular destination throughout the year, with a large restaurant and beer hall, a market, café, and even a bakery, so Southern California residents can get their schnitzel fix even if it’s not Oktoberfest.

But the biggest party at Alpine Village is definitely during these eight weeks, attracting tens of thousands of visitors ready to hoist hefty steins and dance the day away in their lederhosen.

Oktoberfest at Alpine Village admission fees usually vary from $10–$20 depending on when you go (it’s typically cheaper in September), and beers normally run $6 for a 16-ounce stein and $11 for a 32-ounce one.

It’s recommended to buy tickets for Alpine Village Oktoberfest online whenever possible; both to take advantage of frequent discounts as well as to avoid the long lines that usually form with same-day purchasers.

If you can’t make it to Munich this year, be sure and check out Oktoberfest at Alpine Village in Torrance!

Two weeks ago was my first time every going to Okoberfest, I was invited by my friend and it was a small group of us that went. I'm really not a beer drinker but I decided to go anyway just for the experence and to enjoy a good night out. I purchased my ticket online for only $10 but the website charge a $1 convience fee so actually $11.00 which is way cheaper then I thought it would be. I was told that the lines were really long and sometimes crazy so it was worth it, but once we all arrived, the pre-ticket line was longer then the line to purchase a ticket, I guess everyone was prepared for long lines and bought their tickets in advance. Parking was free which is always nice, but once in side it's super laid back, people everywere, and the beer I had was really good, to bad I don't know what the name of it was I just know for me not being a beer drinker it was good enough for me to drink a 32oz and that's huge. But I was just shocked by everyone who had pitchers, boots, and mugs of beer. I really had a blast that night, so much that I'm going back next weekend.

Beer sponsors this year are Warsteiner and Konig Ludwig so it is hard to go wrong with those options, big fan of the Warsteiner Premium Dunkel, but the Konig Ludwig Weissbier is great as well. The event happens each weekend through October (Friday: 6PM until Midnight, Saturday: 6PM until Midnight, Sunday: 1PM until 6PM) but Saturdays are definitely the most fun unless you want to bring kids. Kids are allowed Sunday, but the real party is on Saturday night. Parking is free, though limited, so get there early and make sure someone is able to drive you home. You can also bring your own stein or drinking vessel of your choice, I recommend a boot. Not a glass boot, but a real boot. I've been to a few Oktoberfests in the US and this is definitely one of the better ones to check out.
