Chinese New Year's Day Celebration 2014 Description

Chinese New Year's Day Celebration - Cultural Festival | Holiday Event | Parade in Los Angeles.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year, Southern California’s Chinese communities gather at a temple in Los Angeles for the annual Chinese New Year’s Day Celebration. The festivities typically start on a Saturday in February at a local temple like the Chuan Thien Hau (Cam Au) Temple in LA.

Thousands gather at night to make offerings, burn incense, and light firecrackers. Colorful lion dancers dazzle the crowd as Buddhist and Taoist monks unite with community leaders to usher in the Chinese New Year with age-old traditions. After partying past midnight, the crowd returns to the temple the next day to keep the celebration going with traditional blessings, parades, and cultural demonstrations at Central Plaza and West Plaza in Chinatown.

The Chinese New Year’s Day Celebration is free and all ages are welcome to take part in this traditional celebration. After ushering in the New Year with ancient Chinese customs, see the latest Chinese celebrities along with stunning performances and a parade at the Golden Dragon Parade and Chinese New Year Festival in Chinatown.
