A massive community gathering that spans several blocks of Abbot Kinney Boulevard, from Main Street all the way to Venice Boulevard, The Abbot Kinney Festival routinely attracts more than 150,000 people each year, who show up for the local artisan crafts, live music, tons of food, and to support the Festival’s commitment to environmentally sensitive living.
Normally taking place on the last Sunday in September or the first Sunday in October, The Abbot Kinney Festival has been free-to-attend since the very first one was held back in 1984, with a host of activities and areas designed to complement the eclectic mix of over 100 boutiques, art galleries, restaurants, bookstores, design firms, coffee shops, clubs, salons, and more that line this mile-long bohemian-chic shopping stretch of Venice.
A stage is set up during the Abbot Kinney Festival to host the bands and DJs who perform throughout the event, featuring a line-up that starts right at 10am when the festival begins and continues with roughly 45-minute sets each until the closing at 6pm. Past performers at the Abbot Kinney Festival have included Thundercat, Kisses, Mia Doi Todd, Family of the Year, Nite Jewel, and many more.
Upwards of 18 food trucks are on-hand during the Abbot Kinney festival to help satiate visitors’ hunger, while three separate beer gardens usually make it easy to take care of their thirsts.
There’s also a Whole Foods Market Green Scene during the Abbot Kinney Festival, where participating exhibitors and sponsors showcase the latest in green products, while a dedicated kid’s area promises plenty of family friendly fun from face-painting to a rock climbing wall to pony rides.
