Party Earth City Sip Review

The Scene

City Sip in Echo Park is a cozy & romantic LA wine bar with zero pretension. Grab your date and take a wine flight to Los Angeles with Party Earth.

Echo Park, Los Angeles –

Although City Sip may occasionally host a snooty oenophile or two who’s intent on babbling about pucker astringency or brawny tannins, this cozy bar is more about affordable boutique wines for the everyday kind of people.

Even the ones who walk in thinking “full-bodied” refers to fat chicks.

The simple narrow venue is warmly lit, with scattered tables in front and back, two-tops down one side, and a long bar lined with soft, high chairs that present a dismount dilemma after a bottle or two.

Those inveterate Echo Park hipsters are usually here, fueling up on $4 beer and wine during Happy Hour, but so are older area couples, would-be couples, and casual lovers of the grapey good stuff in need of a mellow night.

Bar food includes traditional cheese and charcuterie and larger snacks – like the popular Figging Good (fig and blue cheese) bruschetta – that patrons pair with one of the roughly forty wines available by the glass and the sixty-plus bottles, which are also available for carry out.

Even weekends are chill, when friends mill about the open racks or evaluate the rotating art displays and the bottle mural on the rear wall, and little more than conversation and the sounds of popping corks fill the air.

Perfect for a first date, a small group date, or just a date with a cheese plate, City Sip leaves patrons plump, perfumed, and thirsty for more.

Tip from Emma:

Dreading Monday? Head over to City Sip from 9 to 11pm on Sundays when all open bottles are half-off by the glass!

City Sip User Reviews

jsunmatthews Oct 4, 2012 3.0 stars Probably my top neighborhood spot for vino! I love this place. Well…99% of it, there IS one douche of a server (young guy, blond hair) who is kind of a tool. But I’ll let it go. Apart from said tool, very warm and welcoming. A cozy bar and a handful of small tables up front and walls all covered in work by local artists (who actually have talent). It’s a great place for an intimate gathering with friends or your better-half, and everybody (even that snooty idiot I keep saying I am over) is VERY knowledgeable. I’m no wine expert by any stretch, but the selection is carefully crafted and largely very friendly to the wallet. There’s a pretty small but inordinately tasty menu, and the fig dish we had made me want to kill the chef…it was to perfect for this world. You can also buy bottles for carry-out and they are priced super cheap, like you’re at the store, so I always end up grabbing a bottle for home. If they had outdoor seating, this place would be perfect.
sgunther Aug 23, 2012 3.0 stars Very Chill City Sip has a very low-key neighborhood feel to it. When I've gone, there's always been someone chatting with the staff at the bar - which is welcoming to see. It's very small so it's not the best for groups, but it is a great date spot that is a bit less hipster than other places in the area. Also, you can buy bottles and take them out with you, so it's a great place to load up when you are prepping for a dinner party and are in need of some advice on pairings. The staff is cool and knowledgeable. They serve tapas, perfect for noshing to accompany your wine. While the food is well done for what it is, it's clear that wine is the star of the show here. The only real downside to City Sip is that parking is a hassle. I'd recommend trying the meters along the hill, just west of City Sip.
