One of the west side’s most intimate hideaways, Bar Chloe is a study in relaxed opulence whose glamorous pre-war Paris vibe attracts a well-heeled but laid-back clientele.

Velvet drapes, damask wallpaper, smoky antique mirrors, and Oriental wall panels provide a luxurious backdrop for the small circles of after-work business people and mellow couples who stop by to laze on Louis XIV chairs and tiger-print chaises or play rounds of backgammon on leather-embossed boards.

Cocktail enthusiasts gather at the marble bar beneath the amber glow of crystal chandeliers to watch the mixologists whip up classic Sidecars and Negronis, while those looking for pre-dinner nibbles can choose from a chalkboard menu of simple yet delicious French bistro food including small charcuterie plates.

Popular with preppy co-workers and in-the-know locals, the bar maintains a low-key atmosphere for most of the week, though DJs occasionally arrive to spin impromptu dance sessions, and weekends see an influx of birthday parties and larger groups.

Debonair and elegant, Chloe may not be a rowdy party palace, but its cool French vibe and lush décor make it a sexy and sophisticated spot for dates or just a few drinks with friends.

Tip from Emma:

There are a bunch of mouthwatering specialty cocktails, but definitely try the most popular one called The Marc – an amazing blend of Belvedere Cytrus vodka, sugar, lemon, and fresh raspberries, served in a glass with a sugared rim. Lip-licking good!

Small but Cozy and Nice

I happened to come across this bar for a friend’s birthday party. At first our plan was to go to a different bar, but after finding out that we’d have to wait an additional hour we left to look for someplace else, and we found Chloe. It was really a small bar but it didn’t diminish its greatness. However, the seats are limited. Don’t put your expectation on those cozy and cute sofas, they are too popular! I assume you may need a reservation for them or have to come really early. The cocktails are interesting, I’d say. I tried one cocktail (forgot the name) but didn’t like it at all, so I just had it in my hand for a while. The bartender was very detail-oriented and he asked what my preference was (sour and sweet), and he made customized cocktail for me. Even though it’s a small bar, you can still get your own space to chat with your friends, without being back to back with other people. It was a fun experience. BTW, the hallway to the restroom is decorated by pictures. The hallway seemed very different from the outside, almost like walking into a totally different place. Pros: nice bartenders; cozy environment for friends and couples Cons: limited space and seats; only 2 bartenders onsite;
The perfect cocktail of unbridled opulence, hipster chic, escapism and home comforts.

Locals know Bar Chloe as simply 'Chloe', one of Santa Monica's favorite places to escape the heat for a quiet and classy mid-week Happy Hour. Tucked away next door to Hotel Carmel, the pre-war Paris decor and intimate vibe attracts a sophisticated yet low-key clientele. Perfect for relaxed dates or a few drinks with friends, couples get cozy in dimly lit corners and small after-work groups lounge on animal print chaises below crystal chandeliers. Surrounded by luxurious velvet drapes, antique mirrors and deep-hued damask wallpaper, Chloe feels like enjoying drinks at home with friends - if you were a modern-day Marie Antoinette living in a miniature Palace of Versailles. At the feature marble bar, mixologists in suspenders engineer delicious specialty cocktails in an array of sizes, shapes and colors. Also on offer is an equally delectable bar menu of French bistro food for those wanting a light dinner or shared bite. The $7 Veggie Burger is a longtime favorite of the trendy, 20s and 30s, preppy-leaning west side crowd. Quiet tunes play from an eclectic indie iPod playlist during the week and local DJs intermittently stop by on weekends to spin for the convergence of birthday parties and packs of bar crawlers. Tasteful and charming, Bar Chloe is the perfect cocktail of unbridled opulence, hipster chic, escapism and home comforts.

Happy Hour

Bar Chloe is definitely a cozy intimate venue. Located near the 3rd street promenade, it is the ideal way to finish off a day of shopping. Their specialized drinks are extremely good; the Crisp which has basil and pepper is my favorite. Their foods are really good too; I got the grilled cheese, which was not the best I ever tasted. But it was decent! My friend got the Macaroni and Cheese and that was delicious! Note to self: get that next time. A huge plus for this place is that it is open throughout the week and has happy hour deals that you would not want to miss. If you are in the area, check it out! You won’t be disappointed.
Amazing Cocktails!

This is a very glamorous and interesting bar. There are so many wonderful fun people that go here but it is also very sophisticated and fun! I loved how many people were intriguing and wanting to dance the night away! I loved this place and it was such good place to dance and bring my boyfriend. My boyfriend loved this place and took me here to dance one night and I was surprised. This place is a lot of fun and the cosmo drinks are fabulous. I recommend the lemon drop drink its so good! You will have a great time!
love the vibe

Maybe it's just me, but I love intimate bars with yummy cocktails. I love the vibe of Bar Chloe, and the bartender is super nice. I love the sophisticated feel of Bar Chloe, and I can't wait to come back. In terms of food, they have a few small bites, which I haven't tried quite yet, but they look delicious. The burger looks super yummy and juicy. I went to Bar Chloe with my boyfriend; and like the previous review stated, it's pretty couple-y. Definitely a good date spot. It's a good spot to try in Santa Monica for sure. I'd go to the Misfit Bar before I go here, but I would come here for dessert/after dinner drinks. I always feel pretty trendy and hip when I go to Bar Chloe, and I definitely recommend it to USC students if you're willing to drive away from school for a cute date spot.
Simply too Small

It's cute. Maybe the best way to describe this miniature spot on the west side. You can sit on cushions, there are some nice booths, there's a warm homey feeling to the drinks and food. It's cute. It's a place to take a date because the size means forced intimacy. When you walk in, there's just one little room in front of you. To the right are some cushions. To the left are some booths. There's a small bar in the back left corner and there's a chalkboard with food and drink specials on the back wall. Crowd feels like it's late 20s early 30s and mostly couples. Cute.
