One of the west side’s most intimate hideaways, Bar Chloe is a study in relaxed opulence whose glamorous pre-war Paris vibe attracts a well-heeled but laid-back clientele.
Velvet drapes, damask wallpaper, smoky antique mirrors, and Oriental wall panels provide a luxurious backdrop for the small circles of after-work business people and mellow couples who stop by to laze on Louis XIV chairs and tiger-print chaises or play rounds of backgammon on leather-embossed boards.
Cocktail enthusiasts gather at the marble bar beneath the amber glow of crystal chandeliers to watch the mixologists whip up classic Sidecars and Negronis, while those looking for pre-dinner nibbles can choose from a chalkboard menu of simple yet delicious French bistro food including small charcuterie plates.
Popular with preppy co-workers and in-the-know locals, the bar maintains a low-key atmosphere for most of the week, though DJs occasionally arrive to spin impromptu dance sessions, and weekends see an influx of birthday parties and larger groups.
Debonair and elegant, Chloe may not be a rowdy party palace, but its cool French vibe and lush décor make it a sexy and sophisticated spot for dates or just a few drinks with friends.
Couples, after-work professionals, and birthday parties, 20s and 30s.
Rock, 80s, soul, and indie from an iPod playlist. A DJ spins a danceable mix of the same on occasional Wednesday and Thursday nights. Backgammon.
Dinner menu featuring small bites, lamb skewers, crostini, and a burger with English cheddar and caramelized onions. Happy Hour M–F 5–7pm.
Appetizers $9–$15, sandwiches $6–$13. Beer $5–$7, wine $8–$12/glass or $36+/bottle, cocktails $8–$14.
Upscale casual: jeans, polos, button-downs, fashionable tops.
Any evening for Happy Hour or after-work drinks, Friday or Saturday night for a slightly bigger crowd.
Copa d'Oro (217 Broadway) is another seductive, yet more energetic, cocktail lounge right around the corner.
