Somerset House Venue

Somerset House is a centuries old building located in Central London on the south side of the Strand, just off of the River Thames. Somerset House dates back to the 16th Century when Edward Seymour obtained the land to build it. Seymour became the Duke of Somerset when King Edward VI took the throne in 1547; Seymour initially named the building Somerset Place.

Somerset House has served a multitude of purposes throughout the years. Uses for Somerset House include certain government positions, societies such as the Royal Academy, and the Government Art School. The East Wing of Somerset House also functions as part of King’s College London.

In winter months Somerset House courtyard is transformed into an ice rink. During the summer, however, the courtyard serves as a concert venue for the House’s “Summer Series”. Past performances at Somerset House’s Summer Series include Snow Patrol, Lupe Fiasco, and the late Amy Winehouse.
