Victoria Park Park

Victoria Park is a large expanse of pretty greenery in the Borough of Tower Hamlets in London. Victoria Park covers about 212 acres of land and offers a scenic break from the otherwise urban, developing East End of London. Victoria Park has many paths for people to bike, jog, or simply stroll along and enjoy the view. There are also recreational tennis courts and large grass areas that are often used for casual football or cricket practices.

Victoria Park opened in 1845 and since then it has become a staple part of London’s East End. During the second half of the 19th Century the park was an especially appreciated facility for the working classes of East London, thus giving way to the nickname, The People’s Park.

Nowadays the park is often used as an outdoor venue; music festivals at Victoria Park include the annual Lovebox Festival, whose recent headliners hosted names like Snoop Dogg, Crystal Castles and Florence and the Machine.

In 2011 Victoria Park was voted London’s favorite park in the national People’s Choice Award and also won the UK’s distinguished Green Flag Award.
