White Hart Lane, built in 1899, is a football stadium in Tottenham, England. The stadium, which is known amongst fans as “The Lane,” is home to the Tottenham Hotspur football club. Beyond national football matches, other games at White Hart Lane include England under-21 football matches, boxing matches and in 1995 and 1996 The Lane was briefly the home ground of the London Monarchs, a team that played American football.
As is common with most football stadiums in the UK, the pubs in the area are divided into home pubs and away friendly pubs. The majority of the pubs in the area are home friendly, the most popular being The Bricklayers Arms, but The Elmhurst is the most popular away friendly pub near the grounds.
Today The Lane has a capacity of 36,230 but there are plans for future renovation. On October 30, 2008 it was officially announced that Tottenham will be expanding the White Hart Lane into a stadium that will accommodate at least 56,000.
