Stamford Bridge Information

Stamford Bridge - Stadium in London.

Stamford Bridge, also known as “The Bridge”, is a football stadium that is home to the wildly popular Chelsea Football Club. Stamford Bridge opened in 1877 and became Chelsea FC’s home ground in 1905.

Stamford Bridge is in London’s Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and is one of the larger stadiums within the Premier League. Chelsea football matches have seen upwards of 83,000 spectators.

Aside from football, other sports at Stamford Bridge include rugby, greyhound racing, cricket, and baseball. Other major events at Stamford Bridge have included FA Cup Finals, Charity Shield games, and international football matches.

Stamford Bridge has been redeveloped and expanded to include two hotels, apartment complexes, restaurants, bars, and even an attraction called Chelsea World of Sport. For the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of Chelsea FC, a museum called the Centenary Museum was built to honor the prestigious club’s history.

While not quite as large as the Emirates (Arsenal's home stadium across town), Chelsea's home turf is still very, very big and very, very loud. I'm more a fan of catching a match at a nearby pub (and there is no shortage of them in the immediate vicinity), but if you absolutely have to catch the match live and in person, then you can't do much better than here. But since Chelsea FC is a top notch club, you should expect to pay premium prices for a seat. Just make sure that you wear the right colors or you'll be getting heckled pretty hard (or sometimes worse; one of my friends came home from a match totally soaked in beer and he counted himself lucky!).
