Olympic Stadium hosts benefit long after the games have moved on, as most of the cities gain new venues. London’s Olympic Stadium has bid farewell to the 2012 athletes, but its future will see more sporting events. Different organizations, including football clubs, have put in bids for stadium use, and the venue will host the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. At present, it is designed as a track and field venue. During the Olympic Games, it served as the location for track and field events as well as the games’ opening and closing ceremonies.
Completed in 2011 for the 2012 summer games, the Olympic Stadium is located in Stratford, London. Its capacity of 80,000 makes it the third largest stadium in England. Parts of the stadium can be disassembled, depending on what it will be used for. The 25,000-seat lower deck is permanent, but the 55,000-seat upper ring can be removed. During the Olympics, some amenities such as food vendors and toilets were located outside the structure, though more permanent facilities may be built by the stadium’s eventual tenants.
