England Cricket Team

England’s national cricket team has a history that dates back to the 1700s and have been playing locally and internationally since 1859. Though the team has no home stadium, they often play matches at Lord’s Cricket Ground in St. John’s Wood, London. The stadium was built in 1814 and has a seating capacity of 28,000 for English cricket matches. English cricket is particularly known for its rivalry with Australia. The two teams have been playing since 1882 and their biennial series of matches is called the Ashes Series where they play for the Ashes Urn. Some notable English cricketers include Douglas Jardine, Geoffrey Boycott, Graham Gooch, Ian “Beefy” Botham, Alastair Cook, and Stuart Broad. England cricket tickets can sell out quickly when there’s a big match on the line, so it’s wise to plan ahead when looking for seats.

I can't stop laughing at the state of the English Cricket Team! Their handling of Kevin Peterson and his monstrous ego has brought some spice into the mundane history of the English Cricket Team which frankly has always bored me to death with their lack of winning attitude. The only time I feel they are revved up is during the Ashes which is always brilliant to watch. For the uninitiated, Ashes is one of the best rival tournaments in the history of cricket where Australia take on England. What makes it more interesting is that the rivalry and stories have gone on for decades and it also helps that England somehow seem to find that extra zing while battling the mighty Australians. Its sad that they have never managed to win the Cricket World Cup even though they are the ones who invented it! However, with Alastair Cook taking over the captaincy from the retired, highly dignified Andrew Strauss a lot is expected from this team when the teams from all over the world meet again in 2015. As of now I am just enjoying the drama that big KP brings to the table.
