Barclays ATP World Tour Finals 2012 Description

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the final tournament of the tennis season and features the Top 8 players in the world in addition to the Top 8 doubles teams. The tournament is played annually in November at the O2 Arena in London, which has a seating capacity of 20,000 and also hosts various other sporting events.

Although there's a long history of season-ending championships, the ATP World Tour Finals only got its official name and home in 2009. What makes the tournament even more unique is that the format is set up as a round robin where the 8 players are split into two groups and play the other members of their group. After all four players play each other, the two with the best record meet the two with the best record from the other group in a semifinal, single elimination contest.

The winner of the ATP World Tour Final is awarded ranking points that are on par with winning one of the four major championships during the year in addition to a sizable check.

Past ATP World Tour Finals winners include Roger Federer and Nikolay Davydenko, while other winners of the varying named tournament include Novak Djokovic, Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Ivan Lendl, Björn Borg, John McEnroe, and Jimmy Connors.
