London Sports

London being the capital city of both England and the whole UK, it’s no surprise that many London sports teams are major players in the local and international scene. Arsenal and Chelsea F.C. soccer probably draw the most fans in the English Premier League, though Fulham F.C., Tottenham Hotspur, and Queens Park Rangers, all manage to create quite a buzz whenever they hit the pitch.

The green and white of the London Irish also stir up some buzz on the rugby front, as do the haughty Harlequins in their multi-colored quartered jerseys. Middlesex and Surrey County Cricket Clubs, meanwhile, are only two of a whopping eighteen professional sports teams that make up the English and Welsh domestic cricket structure, and London even slams in some basketball with the likes of the Guildford Heat.

And to round out the offering of sports in London, there’s the annual Wimbledon Championships, a wee little tennis tournament you may have heard of.    ← read less
