Originally built as a corn exchange – a center for farmers and merchants to trade in grain – in 1868, the Cambridge Corn Exchange is now a music venue with turn-of-the-century charm. Though the building has hosted events since its inception, its current form opened in 1986 with a performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Operated by the Cambridge City Council, the Corn Exchange programs the Cambridge Classical Musical Series, in which prestigious orchestras from around the world visit for monthly concerts. Popular concerts at Cambridge Corn Exchange have included David Bowie, Oasis, and The Smiths in the past. Musical theater and special events at Cambridge Corn Exchange like holiday shows also appear at the facility. The venue’s interior reflects its elegant history, and its intimate space is low-key.
The auditorium, consisting of a flat floor, tiered seating, a mezzanine, and a balcony, seats 1,849. Two bars serve patrons before and during shows. Located in Cambridge city center, the Corn Exchange is a 20-minute walk from the train station.
