London Music Festivals Overview
Cool Britannia’s music scene is one of the best in the world, and when summer arrives, London brings in the big names for festival season. London music festivals, both edgy and mainstream, showcase the world’s most popular headliners and buzzed-about newcomers.
One of the most popular events of the year, the decade-old Lovebox, brings the idealism and controlled chaos of Burning Man and Glastonbury to the East End. Three days of hyper-drive concerts, including some of the biggest acts in electronic music, make for a free-spirited and diverse party, showing off London’s motley image.
BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend music fest is a roving party throughout the UK – in 2012 it will be held in Hackney and be called the Hackney Weekend – and it is free. The festival features two days of artists so famous even elderly aunts might have heard of them, and tickets are given away to the lucky people who register in time.
Nothing beats “free,” but plenty of London music festivals have price tags that won’t scare those on a budget. The Wireless Festival dances Hyde Park into the night with top pop and R&B artists, while those who want to feel music beating in their bones will find plenty of trance and other electronic music at the South West Four Weekender.
With top-notch talent and audiences that often include A-listers like Kate Moss, music festivals in London have only one problem for star-struck attendees: where to focus their attention.
