London Arts Festivals Overview
Summer is usually festival season, but London arts festivals take place year-round. Some show off the mainstream for masses of people; others live on the fringes. With every possible medium represented, arts festivals in London are relaxed fun for bourgeois and artiste alike.
The City of London Festival blocks out two or three weeks every summer to transfix the city with all manner of performance art, film, music, and exhibitions.
Fine artists of all types fling open their studio doors during the Dulwich Festival, during which event-hoppers can look to purchase the prints, photographs, jewelry, and other goods on display. On a more international note, the Frieze Art Fair welcomes galleries from around the world, allowing buyers and spectators a glimpse into wider trends. Similarly, the Summer Olympia Fine Art and Antiques Fair brings in pieces from galleries and antiques dealers worldwide. Meanwhile, emerging artists push limits at the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival. Groundbreaking performances and exhibits attract crowds late into the night.
Priceless works of art dating from antiquity live in London’s many museums, but art festivals show Londoners what today’s real-life artists are up to – and give them plenty of fun while they observe.
