With its mix of stainless steel details set against stark white walls, red lacquered surfaces, and black banquettes, The Hoxton Pony has created a minimalist yet intimate décor that’s just funky enough to suit the hip clientele the bar attracts.
Adding to the rather surreal effect of the space are unusual art pieces and giant light boxes featuring large-scale photos and dioramas with foliage and stuffed animals, all of which serve as excellent conversation pieces for the customers waiting at the bar for one of the Pony’s famous organic cocktails.
The downstairs space is given over to a bar and a dance floor typically packed with energetic patrons, while an open kitchen upstairs provides a great view of the chefs whipping up tasty British classics, as well as a less chaotic second bar where it’s generally easier to get the attention of the bartenders.
The clientele largely consists of the neighborhood’s trendy hipster set who tend to stick with their groups and for whom posing is not only a passion, but something to be taken quite seriously.
The bar staff is just as trendy as the patrons are and don matching red suspenders and an “I don’t care” attitude that just seems to add to their allure.
Some pretension aside, The Hoxton Pony is a strikingly visual – and environmentally conscious – venue that offers an unusual and memorable evening out.
