Party Earth Movida Review

The Scene

Movida is an ultra-trendy West End club packed to the rafters every night with a posh international clientele of Europeans, Americans, and Middle-Easterners.

Movida is an ultra-trendy West End club packed to the rafters every night with a posh international clientele of Europeans, Americans, and Middle-Easterners.

In fact, it would be hard to miss the massive crowd that clamors nightly outside the club’s doors, distinctly divided into four separate lines labeled VIP, Tables, Guest List, and Strays – the latter, unfortunately, with little hope of getting in.

Those who do make it through the doors, however, will be met by a décor by renowned designer Samy Chams, whose interiors juxtapose 1920s glamour and modern urban chic.

The main bar and club area is lush with polished wood floors, sultry black leather couches, stainless steel tables with retro stools, and raised platforms strewn with private tables and sofas.

Decadent purple and pink lighting illuminates the bar as mirrored walls reflect the highly fashionable outfits of the elegant crowd, while the intricately arched ceilings and deep earth tones in the restaurant provide an intimate setting for dinner and pre-club drinks.

Although it’s quite the high-end venue, Movida's welcoming staff and oft bottle-drunken clientele help make the all-out extravagant party atmosphere perfect for a fantastic night of dancing.

Prepare for your wallet to hurt the next morning

If you're planning to pay Movida a visit, you better have your finest clothing and accessories ready. Even though this swanky club attracts the city's wealthy socialites and quite a few celebrities, you'll still have a lot of fun. a 20 pound cover charge isn't too bad, but drinks can get a little pricey. Table service is a whole other ballgame. As a group of students, we racked up a pretty impressive bill, so next time we will probably pre-drink elsewhere to save our bank accounts the stress! Movida is totally worth it though. Most of the music is either remixed Top 40, hip hop, or electronic. There's definitely a classy, posh, exclusive vibe given off by the grand wooden decor, the mirrors, and the romantically-dim lighting. Watch your step when you enter/leave! I definitely saw multiple people taking spills on the stairs.
A night you won't regret

If you’re the kind of person that thinks you're Louboutins were made for dancing, Movida is the spot for you. While it's among the ranks of London´s ultra-posh and ridiculously exclusive nightclubs, the atmosphere there is anything but pretentious. Dress to impress, but be ready to party. Wednesday nights at Movida are legendary. They host some of the best DJs in London that will play either electro or house music, sometimes with a little hip-hop thrown in just for spice. No matter what’s blasting through the speakers, the combination of great music and heavy-handed bartenders will keep you dancing all night. If you happen to be one of London´s more elite party-goers, you may receive an invitation to their pre-club dinner via whatever promoter(s) you’ve got tucked snugly in your back pocket. My advice: GO. You will be treated to a fabulous three-course meal in their Mood Lounge before being led off to your table within the main section where no fewer than two bottles of Belvedere will be awaiting you and your party. Overall this place is consistently one of my favorite nights out in London. Beautiful people in a beautiful club all down to have a good time. Doesn’t get much better than that.
A Great Intro Into London's Swank Club Scene

Tucked around the corner from Oxford Street tube station and a few miles west of Soho and Covent Garden is an ultra-swank club known to have frequent celebrity sightings and the most proper weeknight party. Standing in line for Movida can be a bit of a drag, however every minute spent in line just ensures you that it is one of the best places to go out in the West End. Once inside, expect to pay 20 quid (pounds) for entry, unless you have been put on the guest list or made mates with someone who knows the staff. After walking down the steps into the central space, you will be quickly overtaken by the dark lighting mostly coming from the dance floor for atmospheric ambience; dark wooden features and mirrored rooms separating the common area from the VIP space also add to the posh atmosphere. VIP in Movida can be a bit pricey, however while 2000 pounds can be enough for several Eurotrips, it can also buy you and your mates a table in VIP, allowing you to sit fairly close to A-list celebrities that frequent the place, such as the Kardashians and Trey Songz. The bar is appropriately sized for the establishment, tucked in the front right corner; expect to pay 9 quid for a cocktail. As far as the dance scene, Movida is it- allowing posh party princesses and American and European tourists to dance to some of the best hip-hop and electronic mixes. Expect to hear top international hits, from Kanye and Jay-Z to Skrillex, which makes the swanky club accessible and international friendly. Movida is the place to visit during the week for a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, sip champagne with the stars, and dance the night away on the unreasonably intimate dance floor. 20 quid is definitely worth a night out with the prettiest people in London at Movida.
