A nightclub institution in London, Cargo is a live music and DJ venue that has remained at the clubbing forefront since its inception more than a decade ago.

Situated under three railway arches on Rivington Street, the club is designed to evoke a sparse cargo hold where light brown floor-to-ceiling bricks create a surprisingly warm and intimate atmosphere.

Most of the action takes place in the main room as gritty, dedicated music fans listen to bands and shake it up on the dance floor, though the venue also makes space for casual partiers who need a break from the crowds and noise.

Besides a dedicated “chill out” room, the club is full of various nooks and cubbyholes, a patio featuring art from cutting-edge luminaries like Banksy and Shepard Fairey, and a separate outdoor drinking area with an occasional tiki motif and heat lamps to ward off winter’s chill.

With wild theme nights, performances by well-known DJs, and a roster of artists from a wide range of musical genres, Cargo delivers a solid payload for clubbers of all stripes.

Worth visiting

Cargo manages to get just the right balance when it comes to the crowd it pulls. It mainly seems to consist of House lovers, tourists and of course a few of the obligatory Shoreditch hipsters! The mixture of the clientele means that it usually has a buzzing atmosphere. It is a large venue so it never feels to overcrowded. The main attraction of Cargo in my opinion is the garden area. It is very large and easy to find a seat which makes it ideal for the summer months. Entrance on a Saturday is £10 which is fairly reasonable however drinks are on the pricy side. Overall it is defiantly worth checking out.
awesome club in London

I especially appreciated going to Cargo due to the different type of events the club has to offer. I enjoyed spending my afternoons (when it was sunny) in Cargo's backyard, with nice music, great decoration and if you are into street art you can also find 2 of Banksy's paintings. At night, it gets crazy there, bunch of people, awesome music, sometimes live music, definitely worth going.

It is the perfect club for the summer. I had a lot of fun in the backyard and with the Photobooth. If you are in London you definitely have to go there !
GO EARLY!
Paula P. Aug 7, 2012
If I can offer any advice for this place it's this - GO EARLY. They advertise that there is no cover charge if you're there before 10pm. This is NOT the case. The numerous times I tried to get into this place (which by the way is not that easy to find) my friends and I would leave at like 8:30, find the place by like 9ish and wait in line only to be skipped by all the VIP people in their snooty VIP line until 9:55pm when the bouncer would finally tell the non-VIP line that they had to pay. It's RIDICULOUS. So if you want to get in free, make sure to get there at like 8ish so you can get in free. I hate paying cover BUT finally I gave up and paid the 10 pounds to get in and I ended up having a great time. The drinks were really good (albeit pretty expensive) but the vibe in there was really great - there were two rooms playing different music. I was in the room playing all the good 90s/2000s r&b, rap and pop hits and I was having such a blast, and looking around the room everyone else was having a great time as well. I would definitely suggest going here, because it's a great time, just get there early or be prepared to pay 10 pounds.
